"Hamburg style steak" was served like a steak. Putting it in bread like a sandwich I believe was an American invention.

I thought it started in Germany and immigrants brought it here.

It was created at the World Fair. I think you're thinking of the hot dog.

The ice cream cone also came from the World Fair.

The whole 'tastes like vomit thing' is a lie created by European chocolatiers afraid cheap American chocolates were going to invade their markets.

It's the same trick wine sellers use when tell you their wine tastes of honey, or hickory, or kombucha, or anything that's not bloody grapes. If you go in looking for a flavour, your mind will find the nearest approximation and ascribe it to that.

It occurs in any kind of animal protein synthesis or folding. It is not specific to vomit.

And really people here got some weird fucking ideas about what vomit tastes like. Vomit tastes like 90% whatever it is that You're vomiting. Eat a pizza? Your vomit tastes like pizza. Vanilla milkshakes? Your vomit tastes like vanilla milkshakes. It's just a slightly nastier acidic version and almost all the acid in your stomach is hydrochloric acid anyway, not butyric acid.

If you've ever thrown up enough to get proper bile, that always tastes the same.

It's also incredibly unpleasant.

Chocolate elitism has always seemed weird. Hershey's is hardly my go-to chocolate, but it's fine. I feel like I've tried chocolate from other countries in some of those variety international boxes, and I don't really remember it being really much different at all from standard American ones.

Ugh I hate this brand. They make all those nasty bonbons. They try to sound fancy but it comes out tasting horrible most of the time.

It does have more butyric acid, but not an amount anyone is going to notice, unless they're specifically looking for it.

Isn't it weird that Hershey was selling chocolate for decades and no one ever noticed until they started making inroads to the European markets? People imported chocolate before that, people also traveled between Europe and America, and yet no one detected this apparently unmistakable vomit flavour... Until European confectioners started braying it from the mountaintops.

or it wasn't until global wealth became common enough to buy chocolate regularly, and the age of information started. These resulting in people being able compare, contrast, and most importantly discuss. Maybe instead of trying to cope, people recognize these arguments existed before their memory. We have people today who have never tried ramen, boba, sushi, or actual Chinese food despite their popularity and public awareness. I've never had Toblerone.

I've eaten Hersey's chocolate all my life, and honestly I've always hated their pure milk chocolate as it's always tasted sour to me. I'm not much for chocolate either way, but I massively prefer dark chocolate. I'm curious, is anyone's number 1 chocolate a Hersey's?

"Anyone" yes obviously. There's people who think McDonald's makes the best burgers and Starbucks makes the best coffee and so on. I don't think you'll find anyone here.

Also not all Hershey's products are equal. Their Symphony bar tastes WAAAAAY better than the regular chocolate.

Kinda like how Hershey's is a slightly nastier acidic version of chocolate

That's another thing I was wondering. Are people claiming that all Hershey's chocolate products (Reese's, Kit Kats, etc.) taste like vomit, or just the plain milk chocolate bar?

Symphony is actually the exact same stuff just with different proportions. It's got more cocoa butter and more lactose.

I think people are just referring to the chocolate itself, not the products it's necessarily used in. For myself, I can't eat the pure chocolate stuff like Kisses or a Hersey Bar. I still get that very acid sour taste from things like Kit Kats and such, but it's to a much lesser extent as the chocolate is a much smaller percent of the bar.

There are definitely nuts or cookies or something additional in there, it's not just plain chocolate

Eh all coffee is the same if you're not buying a super expensive one or instant coffee.

My aunt has lived in the US for 40+ years. She always brings chocolate to the UK when she visits. I dont get how you guys enjoy US Chocolate honestly. It mostly tastes so cheap and nasty compared to UK chocolate and no idea why. Hersey was one of the chocs shed always bring and it was always my least favourite.

its funny me hearing the US talk about kitkats when its actually from Europe and merely licensed for Herseys to sell it.

https://www.thedailymeal.com/1116478/the-reason-british-kit-kats-taste-better-than-americas

Apparently it tastes worse in the us because in the UK it needs to be made of at least 25% cocoa to be called chocolate. In the is only 10%.

Same for me with things like oreos.

Just tastes like cheap chocolate yet costs the same as expensive shit.

To be fair, it does actually get worse than Hershey's.

There are these unbranded (like, I dunno I guess they come in a bag with a brand name (I use the term incredibly loosely in this case) on them?) chocolates just wrapped in foil that people give out on holidays that are much worse. Granted, they don't taste like vomit, but... look, if you were ever to try one, it would make sense, lol.
