Butyric acid is in lots of things. It's in milk, butter, meat, basically anything you can eat from an animal has butyric acid in it. None of those things "taste like vomit"

Milk can certainly be reminiscent of that vomit taste, but to a much lesser degree. I would imagine it has more to do with amounts found in those things which determines how strong of flavor something has. Not only that but it's also weighted against flavor profile. Those other examples are not exponentially sweet like milk chocolate, hence that non sweet flavor is likely being highlighted, like sweet/salty chocolate.

Why does this upset you? It's literally a global thing. Some people are more sensitive to certain chemicals. Hershey chocolate has a taste reminescent of vomit for some people, due to higher concentrations of butyric acid. Why is that bad to say?

Yeah, I don't get the hubbub about this. It's not like a complete ass pull, there's scientific explanations for this conclusion. And many people/culture have trouble with different tastes.

Hence why I said "low quality." While the process is only used in America it is also only in crappy chocolate.

I wouldn't say Hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit but it definitely has a spoiled taste to it. It's gross.

Hershey's just adds extra as a preservative.

Naw, it's how the chocolate is manufactured. It causes lipolysis, which is how the chocolate lasts so long and doesn't rely on adding any additional acid.

I've definitely had some rootbeers that remind of some liquid medicines. Some sarsaparillas and really cheap grape soda as well.

My personal food bad taste is the ketchup tastes like rot to me. Even the smell repulses me.

When I was like 9 or 10 my uncle gave me and my brother a huge bag full of Hershey's Kisses.

I ate so many of them that I got myself sick and threw up. For almost 2 decades I couldn't even smell milk chocolate without getting the urge to vomit.

So technically, it's possible for Hershey chocolate to taste like vomit.

I guess I got used to it because it taste fine to me. Even the "premium" chocolates don't taste any better, but I rarely eat Chocolate as is.

I'm in a weird middle ground when it comes to cilantro. It doesn't taste like soap to me. Or maybe the people saying that's how it tastes have never actually tried tasting soap. I also don't like it though. But if keep eating it anyway eventually I'll adjust. Like I just had for lunch some biryani that had cilantro everywhere and it was delicious but if I actually pick off a piece and eat it by itself it's kinda gross. I have a similar problem with mint. Can't drink mojitos because of it. Stuff with mint flavoring is ok sometimes. Makes me wonder if there's something in the plant itself that's the problem.

The cilantro thing is very well documented and understood, to some people it legitimately tastes like soap. It all depends on if you have some gene or not. It's not just a matter of not liking how it tastes.

Oh I'll absolutely murder someone for a Bueno. It's just the standard "chocolate" they use in regular Kinder and Surprise that's disgusting.

A lot of people in Spain say that about root beer too. It's apparently one specific medicine that's common there.

Also I can taste the soapy flavor of cilantro but don't mind it.

Kinder may be a European brand, but in America it is made in Illinois using American methods.

Hersheys is fine. Its just another thing for snooty Europeans and snobby Internet nerds to complain about.

I remember eating off brand Oreos and off brand cola together when I was 10 or so. The combination together was very similar to vomit.

Didn't know that. If I ever get my hands on one made over there I'll check to see if I can taste a difference. In Europe a regular Kinder bar tastes pretty much like white chocolate, just butter and sugar.
And I'm a dark chocolate kind of guy, so I don't fuck with that.

Its not even considered chocolate in parts of Europe and cant legally be sold as such. Instead it has to be sold as a chocolate flavour product.

Its clearly not fine. You just have incredibly low standards.

However, thats not your fault If youre American. The food standards in the US are appalling. Youve probably become desensitised to that through no fault of your own.

Maybe. I use to hate cilantro as a kid but I'm fine with it now. I also don't like mint. I just saw a recipe for something a few days ago on Youtube that included mint for no reason and thought it would be far better without it.

American food has a reputation, deservedly so, of being mass produced cheap reproductions of authentic foods. This is true, in regards to our mass produced food products, like American cheese, Hotdogs, Hamburgers, Herseys chocolate, Cool Whip, Miracle Whip...etc. The reasoning though often relates back to times of strife, like the Great Depression. This is similar to how Americans often make note of how bad British cuisine is.

Canning and freezing really effed up American cuisine.

I remember deciding in college to make myself eat some broccoli because "it's supposed to be good for you" and, upon finding it not that bad, reasoning that my palette must have grown up. Then, after years of that, grabbing some frozen and hating it EVERY BIT as much as I did as a kid. Positively disgusting. Because, what I didn't realize was, as a kid I had frozen broccoli, and the fresh is just leagues better.

My boys don't mind their vegetables at all, because we buy fresh instead of that total shit they sell in cans and freezer bags. Actually, my five year old's aversion foods are potatoes and shrimp, lol.

When I first heard about this, it hurt me since I throw Cilantro in a lot of my staple meals. If I start a restaurant, a good deal of the menu will be inaccessible to them.

I'm sure i don't have this gene, but I kinda get what they're tasting. I like cilantro, but there is something about fresh cilantro that a slight soapy, bitter taste when you bite into it. I get a similar taste whenever i bite into fresh leaf like mint or parsley. Still love it though.

Yeah, but i think most people think fast food burgers when they think American. Which in general doesn't have a good reputation as "cuisine". Again that quick mass produced, quantity over quality reputation American food gets dinged for.
