Im determined to run in a half marathon despite currently dealing with Plantar Fasciitis. One physician suggested its a lifelong condition and advised against running, while another assured me of recovery within a few months. At the moment, the pain is quite severe, affecting my ability to walksome days are better than others, today I am stuck in bed, a few days ago I was running around like it was nothing. Nevertheless, my goal is to conquer this challenge and complete another half marathon, I want to beat this thing like the Harlem Globetrotters beat the Washington Generals, like Popeye beats Bluto, like everyone beats the Brooklyn Brawler. Im curious to know if any fellow runners have faced and surmounted similar obstacles.

Idk man, but one time I ran 17 miles and couldnt walk for like 2 weeks

of course my graduation to get up to 17 miles was over the span of a month and a half

but still, I was like fuck this lol

Last time I ran a one, I didn't train at all. I was blessed with some good genetics, a lot of bad ones too. But I didn't take advantage of the good ones like I should have. If I could redo life that is what I would do.

I took my first steps in getting ready for it. I did a .7 of mile today. I would have done more but I dropped my phone and I had to make sure that was okay. But tomorrow I will get a whole mile down.

Eh. Life is a one pass kind of thing. When you know time only moves forward, there really isnt a reason to look back. Be the first marathoner to walk the entire thing, why not?

I walked today.

Ive been a runner since the late eighties.

I used to be competitive but thats been a while. I can still click off 7:30 pace for 6-8 miles. Just finished a 6 mile run a few hours ago: Ran Division 3. Not an expert but know a bit.

There are a some injuries you can manage and train through and some you just need to rest. Plantar fasciitis would be in the you need to rest category. I got that my first year running because my shoes were crap. I was running in Chuck Taylors. That was dumb. I took off a few weeks and was ok, but I was also 13. You can use a bike or ideally a pool running workout while you recover.

Get decent shoes. Not expensive, just good. I get 40-50 dollar pairs and replace every 500 miles. Its Maybe worth it to go to a good running store and have them watch your stride and pick out something that fits the way you run.

theres lots of running clubs out there. Not my thing but a good way to get some coaching and support.

best of luck.

This has nothing to do with your situation but I worked with a guy who had Plantar Fasciitis for years and years.

He worked Swing shift and was supposed to work 3rd shift on Friday nights. He called in sick all the time on Friday nights because his days off were Saturday night Sunday so it gave him a 3 day weekend. He always said it was his Plantar Fasciitis acting up but it ONLY ever acted up on Friday nights.

It pissed me off because I worked 2nd shift and would end up staying and working a lot of double shifts on Friday, 16 hours and unlike him I worked on Saturday and Sundays so after working 16 hours Id go home and try to grab a few hours of sleep and then be right back to work for my afternoon shift.

He manipulated the system so hard at work and was widely disliked. He never went more than 2 weeks without missing a Friday. It made me dislike the term Plantar Fasciitis because I associated it with him.
