So most of our threads so far have been reaction threads or lamenting the change maybe some happy about it except don't think I seen any of those (don't mean they do not exist).

Going to the feedback thread I see people saying the reason for this change was CE just took up too much mod time because of all the places on gamefaqs the most markings came from CE and maybe mods had to carefully scrutinize horny threads to make sure nothing bad got through ie real porn.

So assuming that is the case, what solutions would you have offered or offer to rectify such an issue? Do you feel this was simply the best solution?
Am I wrong about the general reason for the change? Then what is it? Mods feels free to explain if able.

Keep it civil. This thread not about whining about the changes but more about are they the best solution or what other solutions exist or are better?

It's an overcorrection. And realistically, the best way to have filtered it would have made a political forum and a horny post forum. Easier to moderate, and any of the following could have been banned in other areas.

That would have been much easier I feel. The response here guarantees that this place dies eventually .

I think its name being "current events" was likely what did it in. People still come here and don't realize it's just a topicless social board. Had the name been changed to CE or something like a decade ago I'd doubt it would be in fandom's crosshairs

I made this thread because maybe most CE people don't even know or did occur to post there. I didn't until just a few minutes ago.

So people who actually visit CE can share their thoughts here and maybe people look here too or maybe they don't. Anyways, just a place to share your thoughts but you might want to post in official thread too before it closes.

Here's some constructive criticism, have the balls to post it on CE. Imo that was a fuck you and a clear indicator on how much they value the gamefaqs community.

IDK why posting it on CE would be better than the announcements board which is the official avenue for the administration

probably posting on CE yesterday would have just filled it up with reaction posts anyways (and most negative)

Honestly, going all out was probably the best move anyway. People act like this was out of nowhere but the mods and admins have had to constantly tighten up the rules and ban specific things because CE can't even handle having memes. So now it's be nice or get the boot. And going private shouldn't be that big of a deal. When's the last time a legitimately new person came here? Nothing will really change here but now you're actions may finally have consequences.

Perhaps should have increased the karma limit to 150, and named the board General Social or something?
I mean, does GameFAQs have a general social board? A site dedicated to, for example, Star Trek, will have a forum specifically for non-Star Trek topics.

I believe CE is the General Social Board

There actually are community boards for Sex discussions and Hot Girls. There's even a foot fetish board. So far, as far as I know, none of them have been shut down.

Even if boards exist it doesnt mean the majority of people will use them. They basically have multiple horny post boards. Hot Girls is loaded with photos primarily by 2 or 3 users. Its still alive and well even though CE had all their photo topics locked, even the feet one which is way more tame than what is on Hot Girls.

The admins should have cleaned house awhile back. The most toxic users seemed to have free reign here. Most topics were invaded by users who scanned for someone they tagged, and then repeat the same attacks.

Most of them never wanted to discuss anything. Just say chud and post account details.

People not using topics that exist is their fault though. And trying to clean up forums seems like a logical step. To me, that'd make more sense if there was a topic for things, but at this point politics being allowed here but nowhere else AND turning this private is what's weird.

the internet has become pretty polarized in the last few years while at the same time advertisers feel like they have gotten even safer with what they will/will not accept on pages. Properly moderating an open access general discussion forum nowadays just takes a lot of effort and I'm not really surprsied they just don't think it's worth dealing with anymore.

imo this is similar in concept to how many news sites have closed down the comments sections at the bottom of their articles. It takes a disproportionate amount of effort to manage them for how they are not even the main draw of the site

edit: so yeah I'm not sure there is any "constructive criticism" to give. as someonewho uses CE I sort of wish it didn't end up like that, but it's not particularly surprising it happened eventually and I don't think a compromise that gets what the users want while still fitting within the requirements of what fandom seems to be going for is even possible

Why would you not?

It gives the information directly to the board that just had its foundation completely shifted, and I saw literally dozens of people who didn't know about it because they come to CE, not the MBA board.

What exactly would it have cost the admins, 30 seconds and a copy/paste job?

It's mostly stalled out, though. Community Boards in general were kind of a failed experiment.

I think GameFAQs going game only. Will only hasten the sites demise as gaming content can be better discussed on Reddit or on dedicated websites. Maybe they should do more to attract people to write guides for this site. If being game only is their route.
