I like this show, it is well written and has a lot of good messages.

But I hate Eustace. He's the toxic old man that gets no joy out of living that so many of us ultimately have to deal with.

He is constantly verbally and sometimes even physically abusive to Courage. He once even organized a revenge council against Courage with his worst enemies.

Does Eustace get what he deserves towards the end of the show?

The show is pretty loose with continuity and he straight up dies/suffers eternal punishment in at least a few endings.

edit: decided to play it safe with the spoilers even though they technically have no effect on the overall show >_>

It's kind of crazy how that was a kids' show.

My Dad is super verbally abusive and perpetually miserable. You feel a lot less sympathy once you realize the person doesn't want to help themselves so much as drag others down.

Right? That show had to have been straight up terrifying to little kids.

Nope. Pretty sure in one of the final episodes he teamed up with most of the villains of the show and tried to kill Courage with a dodgeball game.

The next episode was some goose God falls in love with Muriel. And what does Courage do? He tries to make Eustace look good so she won't fall in love and run off with him, even though she would be better off with anyone but Eustace. I get that he doesn't want Muriel gone, but no way she would abandon him to stay with her toxic ex husband.

In fairness, the Goose God (in keeping with his being a pastiche of the Greek gods, most of which were total jerks at best) clearly didn't respect Muriel's boundaries and refused to take her polite "no" for an answer, and was fully intending on abducting her before Courage tricked him into falling in love with Eustace's truck and taking that up into the heavens with him instead. Without Courage's intervention, Muriel might not have been able to escape the Goose God's clutches on her own, and Courage would have been stuck with Eustace on Earth.

Yeah, I get that Courage always does the right thing. It's just messed up that after all the abuse he's trying to help Eustace get some.

I think so. There wasn't a lot of explanation for him besides him just living in the clouds and wearing a toga. (So he is Greek.)

Well, at least Eustace lost his beloved truck to the Goose God and he later makes a cameo appearance in another episode, where he and "Truckie" are still together, indicating that Eustace probably had to spend money on another truck just like his old one.

I think the reason why Eustace hates Courage so much is because seeing Courage always getting shown love and affection, probably reminds Eustace that he never got any love or affection as a kid.

His mom is kind of a piece of shit who doesn't have a single nice thing to say about him. She's even tried to sabotage Eustace and Muriel's marriage by "hiring" an ancient ghost.
