Its a common element in TV shows and movies, and Im aware it somewhat reflects real life. For instance, no matter how hard I work out, I wont achieve the physique of Dwayne The Rock Johnson; he was simply born with superior genes in that regard. However, when it comes to storytelling, this trope bothers me. Take Goku from Dragon Ball; hes not exceptional because of his dedication to training (though he does train hard), but because his Saiyan heritage inherently makes him powerful. Poor Krillin, on the other hand, has reached his peak. Even Fry from Futurama is depicted as a Chosen One. And then theres Finn, who gets sidelined because the Force inexplicably creates a dyad with Rey and someone a decade her older. Even when they attempted to portray Rey Nobody (which I still resent the fans for accepting), the narrative ultimately reveals that the Force literally chose her. The less said about The Rise of Skywalker. The better.

Someone should turn it on its head and do an Anti Chosen One story. Imagine if in an rpg, the villain is the chosen one. Maybe God is evil or whatever. And you have to stop his champion. You just play some person who has decided to stop fate/prophecy
