Persona 1 and 2 are getting remakes.
That's according to industry insider Midori, who has said that alongside a possible Persona 4 remake, developer Atlus is also looking to bring the first two games to modern consoles for the first time, too.

When someone suggested that it wasn't necessarily a "hot take" to say that "Persona 1 and 2 need a remake more than 4", Midori concurred, stating, "Yes, P1 and P2 are going to receive remakes too".

Whether these will be in the form of from-the-ground-up remakes or remastering remains uncertain, though. Pressed for clarification about whether she meant remake or remaster, Miodri stepped in to say: "to be safe, I will call it updated form for right now", intimating that the projects may only be in their early stages.

A leaker of notable success, Midori has correctly and accurately revealed information early about many of Sega's properties before. Last month, Midori also alleged that Persona 6 will be coming to "multiple platforms", including Xbox and Switch / Switch 2 (thanks, The Gamer).
Next up from Atlus will be Metaphor: ReFantazio later this year, which moves Persona's social gameplay into a high-fantasy setting.

Meanwhile remakes of Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Grind Radio have been CANCELLED...nah I'm jk but they'll probably take a backseat.

They really do need remakes >_>

I don't remember if it's in that planned remake project announced last year tbh. A man can dream.

Looking forward to the Persona 2 remake the most if this is true.

I don't remember seeing Power Stone in the list of upcoming franchise revivals, but holy shit it would be good if it was.

P1 was one of the worst jrpgs I've ever played and I had bought it day 1. Nearly every aspect of it needs an update to the point where you might as well just make a brand new game imo

Right? Power Stone was a ton of fun no matter your skill level. I think it could even give Smash a run for its money if they played it right.

I've heard it said there are only so many stories ever written, with the rest being minor variations in setting or details. The number has varied from three to seven to twenty to thirty-six.

The people of the future will think this is literally true of video games. That every game that can be made already has, and the only possible way to make more is with remakes and remasters. Only instead of such and such story being "a hero's journey story" it will be "a remake of Castlevania SotN."

They should do remakes of the old famicom and super Famicom SMT games that the west never got. Digital Devil Story 1 and 2 on Famicom and Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2 on Super Famicom. Remake those and release them worldwide

I hope they will fix Snow Queen quest and some glitches for Persona 1 and release Presona 2 2nd disc to English version.

Honestly, now I just want a remake for Digital Devil Saga 1/2. My favorite SMT-adjacent games.

Damn you guys got me wanting to hit the garage and search for my dream cast with all this powers tone talk. Game was criminally underrated.

The remakes that is very much needed and would be appreciated.

I tried to give persona 1 a chance back on the psp and man......couldn't get into it. Nice music though.

So like are they going to combine both P2 games into one or are they talking about 3 separate remakes?

2 on the psp was a miserable experience, even with the few QOL improvements they made. It is a very ugly game, the combat is glacial, and the dialogue is that weirdo stilted late 90s jrpg stuff. It has cool characters and a unique premise, so i hope it gets a full-on remake, and gets treated like a p3-5 game. It deserves it.

Persona 1 had a PSP remake that no one bought. Granted I heard Persona 3 Reload sold well but that was the beginning of the new Persona. Your mega 5 fan, ain't gonna care about 1 or 2 still I think.

1 is extremely rough around the edges but I did complete the 1 remake. It's funny how innocuous choices can lock you into the bad short ending and you'd never know. I bet a re remake would fix that.

I think 1 and 2 need full blown p3-5 style remakes. They dont need a calendar, but they need better presentation, a better battle system, and way better pacing and progression. These games are really weird and feel they are being held together by tape and kindergarten glue.

Cait, the batte system in 1 while trying to seem advanced just fucking sucks because it comes down to putting your archer in the back and sometimes just passing your turn because your attack only hits a certain part of the grid.

I think the Persona 2 battle system is fine though. Eternal Punishment is still punishing to me though it's way harder than it should be :/ and I thought I got Persona 2 more after ya know going through all the games and Innocent Sin all those years ago.

For me the only thing that held me back from liking both persona 1 and 2 like that is their battle systems. The battles just did not age well at all imo. I probably would have dealt with it had I played part 1 or eternal punishment during their original PS1 releases, but trying to play them years later was like man......its ruff.

The character designs is cool (well I can't lie that one girl from part 1 looks kind of derpy to me. Ayase I think her name is), they are definitely cool in part 2 (dude baofu, ulala and that cop dude is peak cool), the music slaps and the story for the bit I played was cool, but its all for naught unless the fightin' gets revamped.

First experience of SMT/Persona was renting the American Revelations of Persona 1. It seemed so forward thinking with negotiations with your enemy but everything was in dollars. It was so stupidly American. I mean even if Mark didn't dance crazy....

That game was really unusual and I never forgot it until the hype machine of 3 started up heh.

I imagine its more likely to be HD ports of the PSP remakes than full on new remakes

There's no good waifus in either.

I wouldn't waste resources remaking 1 from the ground up when there are rumors of 4 too being remade. Rumors rumors rumors. They say Yakuza 3 Kiwami could happen too but not yet. Hehehe

It's a new IP that was rumored for many years that is coming out later this year. I actually liked Soul Hackers 2 a lot, but that game was mostly shadow dropped and did release with some issues. It's not great but, but better than popular reception though that navigation shit omg can't defend that.

I played 1 and 2 on psp. pretty decent games but yeah they felt really dated even back then. hopefully these get a full overhaul

there's a spiritual remake of JSR called Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. really faithful to the originals (grinding feels "snappy" and less precise but overall 9/10 recreation) and the soundtrack and presentation are top notch.

Yeah Soul Hackers 2 was a solid 7/10 for me. I got it for 30$ & thought that was great for it's shortcomings. Definitely no must play though. So if Metaphor is a spinoff using design elements from Persona/SMT, I guess it's likely to be a better more highly budgeted version of the Persona/Fire Emblem game that came out years ago. So we'll still be getting a Persona 6 some time, interested to see what we get.

I almost beat DDS1 then I just got lost and moved on. I have them both. Funny story I was watching Pawn Stars a lot so I tried to negotiate a five dollar discount at ganefaqs. After they said no obvs I just paid their price, but uhh I feel like what I got both games for was around 60 usd max.

Shame I never completed the second and spoiled myself on the series. Eh. *shrugs*
