The reasonings are laughable...

  • Someone might feel uncomfortable (sorry to slightly inconvenience you for the brief moment you have to pass my dog)
  • someone might be allergic (you are outside to have any sort of allergic reaction you would have to be petting my dog or confined with my dog passing by will never cause an allergic reaction)
  • dogs can become prey (I can also become prey too, children are equally as susceptible)
  • dogs can kill wildlife or foliage (in my countless hikes and backpacking trips through wilderness and basic backcountry I have never encountered a dog kill or intimidate any animal, or impact foliage anymore than a human).
  • Dogs harass wildlife (I cant recall seeing a video of a dog harassing wildlife, but have seen hundreds of tourists doing so)
  • bottom line, if I am outside, my dogs are outside and it is sad that pet owners cannot enjoy this park (or any national park for that matter), without leaving their family member at home.

The solution that I am sure every pet owner would be satisfied with would be to have strict leash laws, vaccine requirements, and pet permits to enter the park, as well as steep fines for violations of being off leash, harassment of wildlife, destruction of property and so forth.

i didnt know pets were forbidden but i appreciate it. easier to ban them than it is to allow them and all the problems inconsiderate owners would bring

* dogs can become prey

The only one I cannot easily dispute, and would also add:

  • dogs can become prey (and then cause their owners to want to sue the national park for Yogi bear getting a snack)

I agree with everything you've said TC, but just a fair warning, this message board hates dogs and will probably argue with you.

Dogs shit everywhere.

Trails would fill up with dog shit in a hurry, and that shit carries all sorts of parasites/bacteria that will harm wildlife.

I work at a wildlife sanctuary that sees about a dozen killed, maimed, and orphaned animals weekly because of dogs and cats. You're the exact kind of entitled pet owner who would bring their pampered little shit to these places and cause a problem. Please fuck off.

National parks DO accept pets, in certain areas, so I'm not sure what this topic is even about. Unless you're one of those people who is like "No, I should be able to take my pet literally anywhere, no matter what."

Do any of you guys go to National Parks? TC isn't talking about remote wilderness. You aren't going to see Mountain Lions at Arches National Park or Las Vegas Red Rocks.

But again, this board is extremely hostile towards dogs and dog owners.

i like dogs. I like most dog owners. I do not love the large number of off leash dogs I see when I am on public spaces trails. I really dont like the off leash dogs that have jumped on me and bitten me in public spaces.

https://www.wfla.com/news/national/dog-dies-after-jumping-into-yellowstone-hot-spring-woman-in-critical-condition-after-attempting-to-save-it/

TAMPA (WFLA) A woman from Washington state suffered burns from her shoulders to her feet when she tried to rescue her dog who later died after jumping into a Yellowstone National Park hot spring.

The womans dog reportedly jumped out of the car after the woman and her father stepped out to look around. When the dog ran into Maidens Grave Spring, the woman followed suit to retrieve the dog, Yellowstone National Park said in a Facebook post.

The woman was in critical condition Wednesday, officials told NBC News. She has not been identified since being burned Monday afternoon in the Madison Junction area.

The animal was pulled out but later died, according to the park officials.

In a Facebook post, Yellowstone officials issued a warning to those who bring their pets to the park, saying, Visitors: While in the park, protect your pets by physically controlling them at all times. Pets must be in a car, crate or on a leash no more than six feet long. They are not allowed on boardwalks, hiking trails, in the backcountry, or in thermal areas.

The park said this is the second incident in which someone suffered a significant injury in a thermal area in 2021. The first incident happened in September.

The incident remains under investigation.

Plus a bunch more similar incidents if you search for "dog jumps into geyser".
