TopicThe fact that pets are not allowed within national parks is absurd

The reasonings are laughable...

  • Someone might feel uncomfortable (sorry to slightly inconvenience you for the brief moment you have to pass my dog)
  • someone might be allergic (you are outside to have any sort of allergic reaction you would have to be petting my dog or confined with my dog passing by will never cause an allergic reaction)
  • dogs can become prey (I can also become prey too, children are equally as susceptible)
  • dogs can kill wildlife or foliage (in my countless hikes and backpacking trips through wilderness and basic backcountry I have never encountered a dog kill or intimidate any animal, or impact foliage anymore than a human).
  • Dogs harass wildlife (I cant recall seeing a video of a dog harassing wildlife, but have seen hundreds of tourists doing so)
  • bottom line, if I am outside, my dogs are outside and it is sad that pet owners cannot enjoy this park (or any national park for that matter), without leaving their family member at home.

The solution that I am sure every pet owner would be satisfied with would be to have strict leash laws, vaccine requirements, and pet permits to enter the park, as well as steep fines for violations of being off leash, harassment of wildlife, destruction of property and so forth.
