It's releasing earlier, I'm guessing because of good reception from critics helped with it.

I've been trying to watch it but the first ad hasn't finished playing yet

I admit, the first episode does feel a bit slow, but that's pretty expected for first episodes of a series. World build, character introducing. So I guess it's just like the games . Always felt the beginning of 3 and New Vegas was a slog.

93% on RT so far

Starting episode 1 for a few just to get a feel for it. Big missed opportunity to not start with war never changes

Its slow until its not

Wife and I just finished the first episode. Really liked it. As expected, the pilot was kind of getting all the pieces on the board, but it was really entertaining.

It does seem to be based on 3 a little bit.

Walton Goggins is like Steve Buscemi in the 90s, everything he touches is good.

I watched the first two eps. Pretty good, definitely worth sticking with it.

I'm curious how well the first ep onboards people not familiar with the series; both this and the Netflix Avatar are really abrupt and jarring with their time-jumps in the first ep, for instance. I'm gonna try and get my parents into this show (they love Walton Goggins), so I'll have to see how self-explanatory the show is to them.

The 2nd episode was considerably better. Couldn't have gotten a better actor than Michael Rapaport to be Knight Titus under the helmet.

The dark humor's pretty on-point so far. There's a few instances where it simply boils down to 'horrible violence happening on-screen while a charming Ink Spots song plays," but most of the jokes got at least a chuckle out of me, and at least half of the song choices were very fitting for the scene.

I know a lot of people were worried that Lucy's actress wouldn't be able to carry the show, but I think she does a good enough job of balancing pluck, competence, and wide-eyed naivety to serve as a decent focal point around which all the zany gory adventures can revolve.

The first episode was shockingly good considering. The general story fits perfectly into the game world, though I don't think the NCR or the other folks in the Boneyard would miss a very obvious Vault sitting on the remains of the Santa Monica beach.

My guess from that first episode is that Vault 32 and Vault 33 are a Vault experiment. They're two separate connected Vaults that occasionally intermingle for the purposes of reproduction and trade. It wouldn't surprise me if the blight wasn't just an invention of the raiders, it was something Vault-Tec engineered to happen after a while to see how two previously cooperating societies will interact when one of them is suffering while the other flourishes.

And shout-out to all the chuds mad about this show being woke because I'm pretty sure Dane was nonbinary and the Brotherhood of Steel even used the right pronouns.

I'll wait to hear if its shit or not, prime pooped all over my love for Lord of the Rings

i watched the first episode. tbh i wasn't very impressed. so much setup. i think the pre-war stuff, maybe even the vault stuff, should have been shown later in flashbacks or something. i want to get to the wasteland stuff that was depicted in all the trailers.

this kinda makes me just want to watch Nuke Break instead.

Only saw the first episode but it was pretty good. Tons of references but I think it can be enjoyed as a stand alone show. Since my wife liked it I'll have to hold off on binging it.

My only real criticism thus far is that a lot of the editing in the first ep was really awkward, especially from what I perceive to be a newcomer's standpoint. Why did they just casually brush past the shot of the Mr. Handy in the opening pre-war scene when they could've done a more establishing shot, thus making it clear to the viewer "oh okay, this retro 50's society clearly has space-age tech too, that's cool;" instead, new viewers who actually notice it will be like "wait, what the hell was that thing just now?" Cutting straight from the day of the apocalypse right into daily Vault life was pretty jarring as well in terms of onboarding; even something as simple as starting the opening scene with a Vault-Tec commercial playing on TV at the kid's birthday would've better established what Vault-Tec is (I know they did some of this in the promos, but you can't expect everyone, especially newcomers, to watch those). And I know they were going for a sort of dual-protag story between Lucy and Maximus, but it undercuts the whole 'stepping out of the Vault for the first time' moment when the viewer has already seen several shots of the wastes from the BoS's standpoint; ideally it would've been better to reveal the BoS in the 2nd ep at the earliest. Finally, it couldn't hurt to take a couple seconds to explain to the viewer what exactly a Junk Jet is after the viewer witnesses a waster being shot in the chest with a severed baby doll arm (incidentally it's really starting to irk me how far Bethesda is insisting to push the 'ghouls = zombies who live in graveyards' schtick, but eh, whatever).

I get the desire to gear a show like this for the existing fans, but the whole point of an adaptation is that you're trying to gain new fans in at least equal measure. And a good chunk of the existing fanbase like me are nigh-unpleasable assholes, so you might as well gear more strongly to newcomers anyway.

But again, the 2nd ep is much better, even in the little details. Viewers might initially scoff at the ridiculousness of Cooper (I refuse to call him 'The Ghoul') blowing limbs clean off with what looks to be a short-barreled rifle, but then they took the time to visually indicate the little micro-bomb rounds he was using (even the slo-mo shot with 'boom' written on one of them). Little touches like that make all the difference imo.

I'll try watching some but I won't have a chance with my wife any time soon. Also it dropped at 9PM EST and I was already deep into It's Always Sunny

The vault-tec number it gives in episode 5 is a real number.

I love the setting more than the gameplay. They really nailed it in the show too so far imo

Thats funny as hell . I think fallout is the only game ill accept with glitches because they can be hilarious.

Well, you can always headcanon that Maximus getting his foot stuck while fighting Cooper is a sly nod to the player character getting stuck on terrain. Plus Cooper did fall through a floor during that fight, so...

3 episodes in and I'm annoyed at how she knows so much about the Wasteland and its people when she's been in a Vault her entire life.
Like she knew what Raiders were instantly and even what a Knight was but a fucking tumbleweed gave her pause.

There's also way too much use of the old songs instead of taking advantage of Fallout's great ambient music. That's just a minor nitpick though.

I think she called them that just because she knows the definition of those words lol. People from the outside came in to rob and kill them, so they're raiders. A dude in shining armor saved her life and fight the ghoul, so he's a knight.

As someone who's only dabbled in FO1 and 2, and beaten NV, would I still get enjoyment out of the story, or does it rely on understanding the lore at large?

That's why Lucy instinctually pointed the Geiger counter on her Pip-Boy at her 'husband' when shit was starting to go down.

IMO it's a bit of an incongruity that could've been easily fixed with a simple dialogue tweak (have Lucy marvel "wow, Power Armor!" and a bystander correct her with "that's a Knight, kid"), but it's not a dealbreaker by any stretch.

It helps to prior knowledge of the lore, but I don't think it's very necessary.

Not at all. They explain everything pretty well. Being familiar with the games isore just to spot the Easter eggs.

But even her using her Pip Boy is just because she knows anyone from the surface would be irradiated. They know that there are people on the surface and they're under the impression they're basically all savages who need to be guided. I think they knew raiders would be a possibility.
