Finished it since I watched them all. Walton Goggins should have pretty much been the main character in my view, he carried the show.

Maximus was the most useless character I've seen in a show in a long time. It would not have suffered one bit if he were never there and in fact he was an active detriment in some places. I don't really know what the point of him was supposed to be.

Not sure how I feel about it in total just yet though.

Yeah he's just a weird character that I feel like the story they are telling wouldn't miss if he were never there.

I think Maximus is supposed to demonstrate how incompetent dipshits manage to fail upwards in society. Every time he gets in trouble he either gets extremely lucky or the people around him are dumber than he is.

I'm watching episode six now and I do genuinely wonder if he's written to be autistic. Before he was just interacting with the BoS guys and I figured it was because he and they were both raised in a weird technology cult.

But now that he's around normal - well, more normal - people, he's just god awful at any kind of social interaction. Like someone just absolutely dumpstered this boy's charisma stat. And he's bad at it in such a fundamental way that it really seems like it's more than just being awkward.

He's also very child-like in a weird way? Like he's not quite all there in the head.

But as I type this, I"m also realizing that the Vault 4 guys may be drugging him, so maybe I'm wrong.

I watched the first 2 episodes and it's not bad so far.

Huh, I noticed a fun little detail. I didn't even think about why they'd need a gas station when their cars run on nuclear batteries, but it's not a gas station. The sign is listing the prices of coolant.

I watched the first episode last night. It's been a few years since I was last fully invested in the Fallout series but it seems alright so far. I'm a bit concerned with the depiction of California as a generic wasteland filled with raiders this far into the Fallout timeline, almost like it's gonna take a shit on established Fallout 2/NV lore. I love the set design on the whole though and the characters are interesting

I'm four episodes in and I'm sure they will narratively justify it, but I'm salty about how post-apocalyptic they made the west coast. Like I get that that is the image Bethesda has really leaned into for the series so it makes sense they'd go that direction in the show, but in that case they should have stuck to a less defined area. The west coast being post-post-apocalyptic is what made it cool.

Im on episode 4 and loving every minute of the show. Im definitely going to replay New Vegas or 3 when I finish watching.

I literally know nothing about those games except it's like a post apocalyptic world and there's vaults. Would I like the show? Is it made for a general audience?

I don't think a general audience would have any issue following. FWIW, I watched the Normies reaction to the first episode and the woman there who knew nothing about the game quite enjoyed it and said she followed along just fine.

The premise of the series isn't that deep, so it's not like they have to set up a ton of backstory or anything. I don't know your tastes, so I can't say if you'd like it, but you should have no issue keeping up.

I honestly don't think he lives to shit on it, so much as he has an incredibly specific vision of what the Fallout world should look like and it just fundamentally doesn't work in the west coast setting. I think it's less that he wants to specifically spite it, it's just in the way of his vision.

I did not consider that the squires being forced to carry that big-ass bag full of shit while the dude in the superpowered armor suit walks unencumbered might be a meta joke about forcing your companions to carry around a bunch of garbage.

I don't know if it's intentional, but it's hilarious either way.

So far I've just finished episode 2. So far so good. It's Excellent... and very gruesome

The first episode was shockingly good considering. The general story fits perfectly into the game world, though I don't think the NCR or the other folks in the Boneyard would miss a very obvious Vault sitting on the remains of the Santa Monica beach.

This was the only thing I noticed so far that didn't make sense

If I was an outside dweller I'd just camp and set up fort outside the vault waiting for if or when it would open

Great show so far. I am half way though and spoiled to all the plot twists and turns.

I don't think the relationship between the people who made the old games (and NV) and Bethesda is as negative or strained as fan rumors make it out to be.

Tim has been pretty candid in his videos so I imagine he really did enjoy himself. I'm curious to see if his feelings change as he sees the rest of the episodes.

Hmmm, don't know that I love the finale. It's just hardcore setup for the next season without offering much resolution. I did like the resolution we did get though. The reveal that Moldaver is the good guy and her dad is a piece of shit was not the most shocking twist, but it was done well.

They never did answer how Moldaver was able to live as long as she did or how Head-Man got his hands on her research. Plus...like she was the one that designed it. Why not just build another one?

In the finale, the last shot, was that New Vegas?

Agree. Hes at one scene strong and decisive then making stupid decisions to move the episodes plot in another, which is a bit lazy. Seems like they also killed off the ncr from this show as a prologue vehicle for his backstory.

otherwise I love it so far. Goggins is a gem. Perfect casting

oooohhhhhhh... i'm starting episode 5 and i just realized what else i recognize Maximus' squire from. he played the son on Son of Zorn. that was a funny show. it deserved to get more than just one season.

Finished it, and honestly it was great. Watched it with my parents, and surprisingly they liked it as well (my mom was really into it especially, though the 40's-50's soundtrack and Walton Goggins did most of the heavy lifting getting her hooked).

(I'll go ahead and put spoilers up for the finale ep in case people are still wanting to discuss prior to that).

The finale actually felt like a good payoff, even if it was mostly cliffhanger-bait. If we're comparing it in a broad sense to Fallout 3's missing father-centric motivation, then the show's mystery as to why he disappeared was at least interesting, and the show had the stones to make the selfish asshole father character an actual villain, instead of having everyone in the game trying to convince you that he's wasteland Jesus. The nuking of Shady Sands ended up actually being integral to the plot and not just an afterthought, so props to the writers for that (and it was fitting imo that the act was essentially perpetrated by Vault-Tec). Speaking of, I know Bethesda-brand Fallout dwells a little too much on the Pre-War stuff, but it was kinda cool to see the birth of Vault-Tec as we the gamers know it (horrible Nazi-esque social / science experiments), and it was a neat twist that Cooper's wife was the brains behind (or at least the spokeswoman for) that very thing.

Overall it was one of those shows where I got to ep 6 or 7 and thought 'uhh, I'm a little worried that they won't be able to tie this all together,' and thankfully they did do a good job of bringing the season to a close.

Looking ahead, the one thing that'll make or break S2 is if they can get Wayne Newton to come back and voice Mr. New Vegas.

And I'll bet ten bucks that the Brotherhood uses the cold fusion tech to power another Liberty Prime, or a 'Prime' robot with a different designation (my fanfic headcanon has always been that there's a 'Patriot Prime' and 'Freedom Prime' out there somewhere.)

So uh, maybe I missed it, but how did Lucy's dad not recognize Moldaver in Episode 1? Before the shit hit the fan, I mean.

My impression is that he only vaguely recognized her to begin with. There were a lot of Bud's Buds, so he wouldn't know them all personally. Then it clicked when she started murdering people.
