Dumb, mindless story, unnecessary characters. Its all just an excuse for flashy action scenes which become boring, cause theres no weight to them. You know godzilla/King are gonna win and theres nothing else at stake. Also we are the main characters, but we dont care that godzilla kills hundreds of people with every step it takes (cameras go out of their way to avoid showing that).

That said, there was a nice character arc for Kong which couldve been a more focal point to add some emotional weight to the movie. Hell I think they could ditch godzilla next time and just make it about Kong.

wait, so there's a NEW Godzilla x Kong? Because their naming conventions are fuckin awful, I've been confused. I enjoyed all the new Western Godzilla and Kong shits, so I'll definitely watch this, regardless.

Yeah pretty much.

It's a fun enjoyable movie. I liked it. I like all the bright ass neon shit they do in these ones.

Completely 180 from Minus one where Godzilla is clearly the antagonist and humanity has to unite in order to have a shot at beating it. Also while developing this beautiful family they make you care about so stakes are high at the final battle. Very simple, but so effective.

The name was kinda bullshit though

It was basically a King Kong movie with Godzilla barely being more than a cameo until the final fight

"x" traditionally means "and". The previous movie with zilla & Kong was godzilla v kong, this one is godzilla x kong, implying they work together instead of against each other.

I haven't seen too many traditional Godzilla movies, however in Minus One when he goes to the city where the female lead is working there's a scene with Godzilla walking down the street (in Shibuya, I believe) and he steps on so many people simultaneously that you not only heard the crunching of their bones/bodies, you also see a cloud of blood shoot up around his foot.

The American-based Godzilla movies tend to ignore that, however I don't know if that's standard for Japanese-made ones.

The Japanese ones are like that as well. There's only a handful of Japanese movies that present Godzilla as a horrifying force of destruction like that, but there's like 20 or 30-something that have him as a fighter of "evil" monsters or a defender of humans.
