Note: I tend to call the Moderates for the Conservatives cuz it best describe them. Their party name used to be something like that decades ago but they changed it to the Moderates to appeal to centrist voters.

Edit: the law would not change the requirements for medical practices like hormones and surgery.

What would you estimate the split is on the vote, if you can?

Like 51%-49% types of close, or wider?

It is extremely unclear at this point because the 3 Government parties and their support party have 176 MPs. The four opposition parties have 173 MPs.

At this moment 82 MPs are locked down as yes (a mix of Government and opposition MPs) and 92 as no. With the 107 Socialdemocratic MPs and the 68 Conservative MPs as unknowns.

The SocDems are actually the largest party in Riksdagen but in opposition.

The SocDem leadership support the bill but the party group is also divided just like the Conservatives. Since the SocDems are in opposition it is possible that the MPs will be given the choice to vote as they please though. The bill could get enough votes to pass with that. If SocDems whip their party into line then the bill will pass for sure. If the Prime-minister also get his party in line then it will pass with an overwhelming majority but yeah, too many unknown variables currently.

The US Democrats would be Center-Right. The Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) is a far right party founded in 1988 by a Swede who moved to Germany during WW2 and became an SS officer.

I love how the opposition to the bill are mostly using budget arguments instead of the real reason.

Especially that it is Right-wing opposition to the bill who say that. The Left-wing opposition is using more TERS-ish language.

This bill is really causing a huge stir. I keep seeing opinion pieces for and against from all over the political spectrum. The pro-pieces tend to refer to personal freedom regardless of ideology.
