Because teenagers and college students are stupid.

Most people wearing those shirts or getting posters have literally no idea who he was or what he actually stood for. It's just "hur hur rebellion" meets Hot Topic.

How popular are Che shirts/posters these days? I can't imagine its just a thing Millennials remember that has disappeared in reality but I also can't imagine its actually a current vibrant trend among kids either.

He isn't a mass murderer. I don't think it's exceptionally intelligence to lionize him though.

and yeah I haven't seen a Che shirt since like, 2006. and it was primarily because Rage Against the Machine marketed the shirts.
