no, and no.

the second no just because I let my mind wander when I listen to stuff, so I don't think I can properly follow a story in that way.

I think so, yes. People have listened to stories a lot longer than they've read them.

Some Audiobooks definitely enhance the experience.... Like the one with casts.

Some people skim through some paragraphs but still count it as reading

Absolutely. And no, it's nothing like watching a lets play of a video game. There's no difference in reading a book and listening to an audio book.

I dont care if someone counts it. I just know I have no interest in them. I like the actual books. Nothing from an electronic device for me. I want to have a book in my hands.

Well, you didn't read it, so that should be obvious. You could instead say you heard a book being read to you.

Otherwise you could read books to a newborn baby and tell everyone they've read a bunch of books lately. :p

I think it counts, but if it comes up with me I specify that I listened to the audiobook. But most of the time I prefer physical books, because I retain the information better if I read it.

Words mean what words mean. Big difference between reading something, and listening to it.
But nobody should be judged for choosing to listen to books instead of reading them.

It's like saying you beat a game but you watched a let's play.
However, if your intent is to "go through a game" to clear it from your backlog, watching a let's play start-to-finish is alternative, but legitimate, way to do it.

I once did this with a friend for Limbo; I played and they watched. When they asked "What happens if you [...]?", I'd hand the controller to them, but they wouldn't take it.

[ Btw, we played with my copy of the game on his console, so he received the achievements for it. ]

Some do. IIRC, SW Dark Empire does. Edit: Btw, it has a 2h 32m run-time.

Does not count.

I mean you could be illiterate and listen to the audiobook. Absolutely does not count as a book you read. But then again nobody's going to know if you claim to have read it.

It's an inconsequential detail, so you might as well just count them. You absorbed the book in some manner and the result is the same, whether read or heard. I feel like the folks who care enough to "disqualify" books on tape are maybe too concerned with the aesthetic of being a book reader.

But shit, you might gain some cool points if you say it was on a physical cassette, rather than digital/streaming. Bonus points if you have the huge clamshell box for the four-tape set in your car.

Yeah, if you're talking about someone who can't actually read a book for whatever reason, it's definitely awesome that they don't have to miss out.
