Aren't all video game nerds angry about one thing or the other?

i don't really watch him anymore so no?

i was never all that enamored with him to begin with.

His stuff is okay, decent background noise, but he gets stale with too much exposure

I do. Its slowed down a lot these days and is more laid back but I enjoy it. Ive always liked the videos because Im about 4 years older than him so a number of the videos he did really resonated with me because not only was it the same games I played growing up but it was literally the exact same parts he pointed out in some of the games.

There has been honest to goodness parts that made me bust out laughing because I had some of the same reactions 35 to 40 years ago. I like him better though when hes being calm and just giving background history and information on the stuff and not really in nerd character. I think hes better just as James than as the nerd.

But yeah I still enjoy him. Probably always will when it comes to the NES games.

His juvenile jokes are oddly charming, and I take him over the pretentious video essayists any day.

Yes. One of the few YT guys I grew up with who never really had any major baggage that made him difficult to watch (The Ghostbusters thing and the nonsense on CinemassacreTruth don't count).

I don't religiously keep up with his videos like I did back in the day, but I still check out a lot of his stuff.

Ironically as much as I like his game videos, his stuff on movies is far superior. His video on the movie within the movie for Troll 2 was an absolute chefs kiss.

I'd watch his vids waaay back in 2007-2008ish, but haven't seen his stuff in years.

it's kinda weird thinking about old youtube channels i used to watch. I forgot the names of a lot of them, but I wonder if any of them still make videos.

Usually people who dislike AVGN think its not fair! Im a REAL gamer! I couldve been the one doing what hes doing! not realizing that his personality is what carries it, not his deep knowledge or skill with video games.

He is alright, but youtube definitely thinks I like him more than I do because those 2 hour+ season compilation videos of his is always coming up in my autoplay if I have my TV idling on it's youtube app.

Have I watched anything of his for the last several years? Not that I can remember.

I used to think his content was slightly better than mediocre.

Now I think it's slightly worse than mediocre.

So not really. I don't dislike him but I also don't particularly like him (as an entertainer).

I love him still. I put him on before bed. Usually I'll put his stuff on shuffle on youtube and then turn the picture off my television and listen to him until i go to bed. Its actually pretty comfortable and I can't explain it.

I tried to do the same with Did You Know gaming but I realize I'm too focused on what's being said so I end up learning and not sleeping lol

He seems like a good person, but most of his content seems boring these days though. 90% of new AVGN videos seem to be him obviously reading a script. I no longer even bother to start to watch them unless I hear that its an actual good episode.

Some of his older classics are comfort watches for me

I check out his new stuff very rarely

I think sometimes he now complains about stuff just to add complaints

i still enjoy watching his older stuff, but man... the energy just isn't there in the new ones. it's not even screenwave, they could pick a dumb idea for an episode, like greendog or whatever, and james could have full sent that shit and made it work, but he's phoning it in hard in a lot of them, and then the ones he enjoyed doing were weird shit like fear and loathing in vegas stakes that no one asked for or understood

My hotter take is that he should drop the A, V, and G parts and just be The Nerd. Cover games mostly, but also go more in on other pop culture items, too.

i kind of agree. if the ANGRY goofy energy is gone, i'd much rather just hear James's perspective on stuff, not a character that he isn't into anymore. i really like the monster madness stuff, but ever since the plagiarism fiasco and rumors of screenwave writing for him, the seed of doubt hath been sown, as it were

Not gonna lie, I actually miss the Screenwave guys. I didn't even mind them, and the videos just feel empty when it's just James now.

haven't been keeping up with him nor the Nostalgia Critic for a while.

but i like to go back to their old videos every now and then.

Yeah...the youtube algorithm sometimes likes to go all in with you even if its something you possibly clicked on for like 5 seconds 5 years ago yet it decided you must have these.

I had this thing where youtube kept throwing those muh nippon and indie censorship rage-bait videos at me for a long time just because I might have briefly glanced at whatever that desu dude was bitching about once. The "tifa was censored (but not really) there is a ethics department?! lets bitch!!!" videos, lol.

Don't even get me started on the women sucks videos from that one dude who uses a Alucard from hellsing/black butler knockoff avatar.

Thankfully both stopped now, but for a time youtube was trying to get me on that turbo-dork perma rage pipeline, lol.

Sure. The last (new) one I watched was that the Goonies 2, it wasn't bad. It wouldn't go in my rewatch list though. Occasionally he'll do an episode like Kid Icarus which I feel like the skits/jokes can miss the mark some but I still have a desire to rewatch it. Surprising he is still doing it. I think the episodes are overall way less embarrassing than the screenwave days though. Those had some real stinkers.

I can't say I've watched a new episode recently but I go back to watch old episodes all the time

Yeah, but he's long past his glory days unfortunately. Though there is still a banger every now and then.

That Goonies 2 video was as close to the old days as we are going to get, and I thought it was great. It was also one of those episodes where all his rants and criticisms were pretty spot on with the game, I laughed my ass off a few times. Good way to start 2024, and then he had an interesting horror movie video last weekend.

In short, he makes less videos and is getting older, but he still has the quality.
