Peter Jackson's LOTR is way over hyped. It's fine, I enjoyed it for what it was but like someone said with Vertigo, I feel people put it up so highly cause they feel they have to.

Or afraid of the insane hate they'll get from neckbeards.

I'm sorry but extended editions are just too fucking long. And that's all my friends/dad want to watch. I can't.

Okay (deep breath): I just don't think Oppenheimer is a great movie. It is fine, and it has some great acting performances. But I think it addressed a very interesting and important subject in a pretty uninteresting way. I just wasn't drawn in by the film at all. In fact: I don't think Nolan has made a great film since Inception (2010!). Dunkirk was ok and visually stunning, but I also felt cold toward it. Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Tenet-all varying levels of bad to me. It pains me, because I think The Dark Knight is the best super hero movie of all time.

My wife and I are on the same page about this, but my Mom is legit disappointed in me that I hold this viewpoint. She only ever gets mad at me about my taste in movies. Years ago, after we saw it in the theater, I told her that I thought Titanic looked great but had no script and she didn't take my calls for a few days. She is at least still talking to me now that I have revealed my scandalous take on Oppenheimer. :)

I've recently come to realize I just don't think any movie or most shows look interesting (to me)... Nothing seems to grab my attention anymore... Even if I see a trailer that looks interesting, I'll forget about it by the next day...

Pretty sure the last movie I've seen is One Piece Film Red when that came to theaters years ago... Last show I watched was Hazbin Hotel but before that I haven't watched anything in awhile either...

Game of Thrones was shit from season 4 on, not only season 8 like most people who havent read the books think.

I love a lot of bad old movies that havent aged particularly well, like Hackers, Revenge of the Nerds, Tango & Cash, some Adam Sandler movies, etc.

It was mostly a joke. My Mom is great. But she really did hate it that I didn't like that movie. She was just eager to share it with me, and I wasn't very tactful in my response to her enthusiasm. I was a dumb college kid in 1997-I would like to think I would handle things more tactfully in 2024. :)

Fun fact. The shootout was so accurate in a portrayal of how to shoot and cover, with super fast reloads the USMC used it for training for a while, or may still. I think they said "if an actor like Val Kilmer can reload that fast, you should be able to also". Crazy.

I don't dislike the Nolan trilogy (well, Rises is debatable), but they have some of the worst editing for action scenes I've ever seen.

People always make fun of the Taken scene where Neeson jumps the fence in twelve cuts, but TDK isn't much better.

Ive seen too many anime adapted from other sources where a six-episode season just wouldnt accomplish any audience investment while having a respectable season end. That doesnt mean that the series are bloated, but they need the right stopping point and that usually would a bit further.
Like To Your Eternity would end after the arc with March or Stein;s Gate wouldnt have gotten very far either.

That or rush through any interesting details like the awful Dune 2021.

I'd actually argue nearly opposite of that. Jedi is a disaster whenever the Emperor IS on screen.

If the dude would shut the hell up and let Luke kill Vader, he'd get what he wanted. But every time Luke gets pissed off, he stops him to remind him that killing Vader would be evil and then Luke's all like "oh right I forgot."

The Count of Monte Cristo Jim Caviezel adaptation is legitimately bad, and loses sight of the source material.

not to say that an adaptation has to be identical to the source material, but this adaptation feels generic and soulless.

Caviezel also lacked charisma in the role.

To be fair, there's really no way to make a decent film adaptation of CoMC. It's about as long as Lord of the Rings, and needs every single word. You'd have to make it like a ten film series to even cover every chapter.

There actually is an abridged publication (maybe more than one) but it's an absolute mystery how.

I feel like I am taking a possibly life-threatening risk by saying this since people may want to hurt me....

Nicholas Cage is not a good actor. More specifically maybe I should say he doesn't have a lot of range. I like a lot of stuff he was in and some of his 90s/early 2000s stuff is a large part of my childhood like Con Air, Face Off, The Rock, Raising Arizona (80s), even It Could Happen to You, and stuff that a lot of people have never heard of like Trapped In Paradise. Shit, I even wore my VHS copy of Raising Arizona out as a kid. I even enjoyed some of the stuff where he tried to be more serious like The Weather Man.

As many of the movies of his that I could think of off the top of my head that I enjoyed you wouldn't expect me to really have anything bad to say about him. And I can't quit put my finger on why I don't think he's good. It's partly because it feels like every character is mostly the same with the same mannerisms and stuff.

I haven't spent a lot of time figuring out why. It's just something that's been floating around in my head for a little while.

I agree that you can't fully adapt it with a single movie, but I felt like the changes that were made removed a lot of depth from the characters and story, and that the ending was unearned.

TV shows need to go back to 13 to 22 episodes, and stop being a single long serialized story.

Movies
  • The Lego Movie is mediocre. It was simply a style over substance movie with a long-winded "Legos are for everybody" message throughout.
  • Super Mario Bros (1993) is more "weird" than "bad". Yes, the 2023 CGI film by Illumination is leagues better.
  • I prefer the original Jumanji over the two recent film sequels for being more "adventurous-like", among other things.
  • Outside of having higher production values and scope, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies felt like a glorified 84-minute TV episode than a movie. It's probably better than the show overall, but that's a very low bar to clear and even then, it's still a far cry to the original Teen Titans show.
  • Son of the Mask is the worst movie ever. End of story. Give me Chairman of the Board over this any day and even that movie is abysmal.

TV
  • Uncle Grandpa honestly wasn't that bad of a show, even though it had plenty of room for improvement.
  • The original Total Drama Island (2007) is the only "great" show throughout the series.
  • Batman: The Brave and the Bold is my favorite Batman show.
  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force went downhill after Season 3.
  • Sealab 2021 wasn't a "bad" show.
  • I liked The Cleveland Show very much, albeit not on the same league as Family Guy or even American Dad.
