It tasted kinda like alcoholic Sprite. Apparently it was just clarified adjunct beer with citrus flavor added.

i snuck a few from my dad as a teenager and from what i remember it tasted like someone mixed really cheap beer with flat sprite

I had one my senior year of high school. It got really popular when it launched in 1993 which is when I started my senior year. We used to buy it and other wine coolers for the girls at parties. It definitely was really big with high school kids that first couple years. At least in our school and we were in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest.
I tried it and it just tasted like really flat 7 up to me with a more pronounced lemon/lime flavor. All those boozed up sodas are especially gross after multiple. Mikes, Zima, Smirnoff Ice, Four Loco, etc. Buying regular soda and a bottle of liquor is more effective and economical.
