I was expecting something more impressive than a desert or lawn or whatever that is and some houses in the background.

Let not forget the Alsace region, where certain streets are basically French and other German, culturally.

And it is the home of the German Shepard, or Alsatian.

Well, I think it's all French, but the cultural thing stems from who had the land...as in, which week of the war it was. And so, the people that were left after the war sorta' came up with their own thing.

There's parts of Belgium and the Netherlands that are multiple levels inside each other. There are houses that are partially in one country and partially in the other

Or how about the time, not too long ago when a farmer moved a land mark and briefly changed the boarder between Belgium and France. ~That one is not too bad.
