I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Yesterday's results saw Generation V reign supreme, securing the win with 30 votes, and more than doubling Gen VII as its next closest competitor. I guess it makes sense that sheer volume of options on the board would work well in Gen V's favor.

For today's contest, we're doing Dark-types. Not an initial typing (and heck, not even retroactively added to Gen I), but they've become a mainstay, especially of early routes. Given Gen VI's limited roster, I have folder Mega Evolutions into their list, as those were, effectively, some of the new Pokemon created in lieu of brand new designs for Gen VI. I'll keep the same concept for later typings as well.

Bug: Gen V

This is tough. I would say it's definitely NOT Gens 5/7/8/9.

Gen 6 has some good stuff (plus the megas, but it's not enough).

Gen 4 just isn't QUITE enough either. So it really comes down to 2 vs. 3.

I think 2 just has ZERO duds, so that's where my vote goes.

Went with 9. I like the ruin legends, Meowscarada is neat, and Mabosstiff is a good boy

It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.

Went with Gen V again. Just too good and didnt have to resort to older Pokemon or anything. Vullaby line is the only dud for it

Gen 9 is by far the best. None below fine, and the sheer number of good ones beats out gen 2. The ruin legends are the best legends we've gotten since gen 3.

Why is 9 a definite no?

Because I think the Ruins Quartet brings down the overall quality of the typing for that generation. Plus Brute Bonnet.

lol, 5, 8 and 9 are the best three.

I went with 5 on this one. The entire Sandile and Scraggy lines, Zorua, and Hydreigon take this one.

5 > 9 > 2 > 4 > the rest btw

2 and 9 both really good imo what with the good boy (Mabosstiff) and Kingambit in one, and T-Tar & Houndoom in the other.

Went with 2 over 9 and 5, narrowly.

kingambit cant carry 9 hard enough by itself even though its one of my all time favorites already

9 overall. Meowscarada is great and there's a bunch of other good Pokemon there too. Could make a case for 5 pretty easily too though.

I'm surprised that 6 has no votes. I don't care for Greninja or Pangoro myself, but you'd think that'd be enough of a 1-2 punch to make a lot of waves.

My only issue with Kingambit is its pose. It kind of looks to me like it's constantly taking a shit. Other than that it's perfect

gen 6's mega offerings are pretty compelling ngl. gen 9 is stacked with only 4 real misses there imo (lokix to bombirdier). gen 5 also has real solid options, it's just a shame i'm not a fan of the scrafty/mandibuzz/hydreigon lines. half of gen 4's list rules, but also stunky/skuntank exist and drapion is a bit whatever. gen 2 and 3's lists are pure and holy to me so i guess it's got to be one of the two, and seeing as i'm a good deal less into murkrow and sneasel compared to their gen 4 evos it might as well be gen 3. (oh yeah and since i didn't mention gens 7 and 8 i'll just say that they went above and beyond for their fight for last place for me, in that i don't think i have positive feelings a single one of them besides thievul, who i still don't even like as much as similar ones like houndoom, mightyena or liepard >_>)

Yeah, more or less my thought as well. Though for me they're more like my favorite Dark lines instead of favorite Pokemon in general, but they're still really cool.

this one is a bit hard. i like the dark type overall, but most gens have only a few standouts to me.

i feel like 4 has the most amount of dark types i think of highly, but other gens have pokemon i like more (chi-yu, malamar, absol...)

Gen 3 and 5 have some of my all time favorites (Sharpedo and Bisharp) and others I really like but also have a few stinkers each

I went with Gen 2 because it doesn't have a single stinker. Houndoom and Tyranitar are my favorites, but the rest are all great too. Dark type hit the ground running

Also, to tie this into yesterday's poll, I feel like Ninjask would have been more interesting as Bug/Dark instead of yet another Bug/Flying

Ruin legendaries are good sans the fish. Chien-Pao is particularly great.

Cool lore and the best legendary battle theme since...I'm going to say either Ultra Necrozma or maybe even Giratina
