Basically it's an independent online store. Creators put their stuff directly on it. I only know it even exists because many artists I follow have used it (...most of them have used it for NSFW at that so I can't imagine this'll go over well with them).

My guess is that credit card companies and/or banks pressured the site's owners to do it, not giving a fuck if the site lives or dies as long as they themselves don't get associated with porn (which could potentially make them lose favor with the religious fundamentalists in the Republican Party, which could then cause them to lose out on tax breaks and/or favorable legislation).
