No it was very bad judgment for her to do this, because now it's likely she will face consequences well beyond what the original problem was. She really should have known better

The sickened 11-year-old said he took a large sip then spat it out because it tasted bad, according to the arrest warrant. He developed a headache and started to feel nauseated shortly after drinking the concoction, officials said. The student has since been discharged from the hospital and is doing well, CBS affiliate KENS-TV reported.
So basically, the kid said he had a headache and felt nauseous. Unless this kid was legitimately throwing up or shitting himself uncontrollably, everything he's claiming is easily faked.

He didn't even swallow it, according to this article. Good lord.

I'm not saying anything like that, and I responded the way I did because your post didn't seem to have any point to it.

She made a poor judgement call, it's fine if you agree with what she did but it does not mean it was a good decision on her part. She's facing the consequences she is specifically because we as a society expect adults to know better

Nah, this is more like overly coddling a misbehaving kid because potentially if the school doesn't act here, the parents of the bully can litigate the school for negligence.

She made a good judgement in protecting her child. The morons running the system made a bad judgement in punishing her for it. We'd expect adults to understand that lemon, salt, and vinegar aren't poison. We'd also expect adults to understand that this would have been completely avoided if the asshole bully didn't steal the drink. For some reason you think it's smart to enforce a system where thieving bullies get sympathy and harmless passive resistance against a bully gets punished. Sit in a corner and reflect on what you're advocating for.

Stay on admin's ass until I get results. That's what I did when my kid was getting bullied by an actual teacher, who was in turn allowing other kids to bully him. What I would not do is retaliate against the bullies.

I still think it's a pretty minor incident all things considered, to the point that involving the police seems like overkill, but assuming this is accurate (as in, bully was given the lemon/salt/vinegar blend, as opposed to stealing it), I'm less inclined to side as unequivocally with the arrested mother and bullied kid. Not that it excuses bullying, but you lose some sympathy points if you trick the bully into drinking something that was offered freely.

I feel like if this was a movie from the 80s based around a bully victim standing up for himself who did all of this on his own sans mother pretty much everybody would be going "karma" or "poetic justice".

Like, I'm pretty sure there's actual plots in movies where this has been a thing and I've never heard people complain.

And yet when it happens in real life it somehow makes the bullied victim look worse?

Bet the little fucker is faking the "sickness" in an effort to torment his victims even more. Salt, lemon, and vinegar won't send you to the hospital. He probably gagged and spit it out immediately

I mean, at the end of the day, if he was hospitalized, there will be documentation from a medical expert that either corroborates or refutes the claim that this mixture led to the hospitalization.

Ok, well the difference here is the kid might have actually poisoned his bully since he's the actual victim. So a child, especially with their underdeveloped sense of actions and consequences, might have actually put bleach or rat poison in it.

The mom, as a nurse, intentionally made a nontoxic combination of ingredients to gross the bully out.

So I'm gonna have to disagree, because I think someone intentionally making it nontoxic is the best case scenario and there's no guarantee a bullied child would care about the well-being of their bully.

But this is a very benign form of revenge against a bully. The mom literally made sure it was a nontoxic mixture. That's better than things getting physical or a child actually poisoning the bully.

We tend to cheer a lot of things in movies that, if they happened in real life, would actually be horrifying, and I don't think that's the scale against which we want to measure real world morality.

That said, yes, obviously? Are you arguing that there's no difference whatsoever between the bully taking it by force and being freely given it? Because if not, what I said was "I'm less inclined to side as unequivocally with the arrested mother and bullied kid", which is about as minor an opinion shift as I can manage. Personally, my advice would've been to throatpunch the bully the next time they tried to pull something, or to pull the old Bobby Hill, even though I acknowledge I'd be surrending some of the moral high ground in doing so.
