I agree with the sentiment but lots of people like logging in with their phones and PlayStation even lets you sign in with your phone now.

Yeah but it's for a good reason.

It's called multiple factor authentication. The idea is that there are three ways to identify a user:

Something they KNOW (eg, a password)
Something they HAVE (eg, an ID card)
Something they ARE (eg, a thumbprint)

MFA uses two or more of these. The idea is, in order for someone to impersonate you, they have to not just trick you into giving them your password, but ALSO get your eyeballs or your phone or etc. Which, needless to say, is MUCH harder.

Any app/site that you put payment information that doesn't require 2FA would be a concern. Considering most phones can accept text messages and you can hook up to your email account, I'm not sure why it's a big deal to get a 2nd code just to help prevent someone using your money to buy stuff.

So that when there is a breach and your email/username + password gets exposed, people can't just steal your account.

It's a good thing. The more security the better.

The data in there certainly can be valuable to the right wrong people, so you should care. Also not being funny, but with how many people reuse their passwords, having even one account compromised like that can be bad, especially with how many sites have terrible security on their end. Your online security is only as strong as its weakest link.
