Was any one here a part of DBZ Land? It was a super early internet create a character community.

All throughout middle school, my parents had some BS cable package that split Cartoon Network with some generic sports channel. No idea why it did that. It would literally change in the middle of the day. I would still watch DBZ at my grandparents house (which we were over at often, but not enough for my full DBZ fix) but I wanted so badly to watch it at home too. Same went for Toonami and Adult Swim in general.

One time I remember an episode of DBZ being on in the morning for once at home and being hyped at being able to watch it, then it literally blinked out and switched to golf in the middle of Goku talking lol. Eventually we got a different cable provider once I got to HS and I still remember watching that first glorious Inuyasha episode at home, lol.

I remember racing home from school at warp speed every weekday to catch the opening theme(rocking the dragon) when it aired on toonami back in the 90s.

Yup, I remember all of that quite fondly. And although my opinion of the series has lowered considerably since childhood, I'll always look back on those times with great nostalgia.

Yup me and my mom watched it all the time together. Vegeta is still her favorite.

We've all been Vegeta at one point, working your ass off all your life only to be constantly overshadowed by someone else.

I remember watching it before school in spanish and den when i got home from school I'd watch it in english on toonami, dbz is da GOAT. RIP Toriyama ;(

And they were subtitled too, the quality was so bad that you couldnt read it half the time. But to this day I still think Goku should sound like a girl. Yeah and those websites would have a full episode section which was gone within a week.

another cool irl moment was watching the Trunks epilogue episode at my friends house. When its over we just turn to each other that was a great episode . That ep was Trunks coolness in a nutshell.

Trunks chopping up Frieza in like 2 seconds instantly made him my favorite character

i watched a modified version of cartoonetwork that was broadcasted in overseas USA bases. I don't think it had toonami on most days. i just remember late night cartonnetwork showcasing boomerang and infomercials lol.

my only exposure to dbz was a few vhs tapes that my dad had. it covered a part of saiyan saga and a few episodes of namek saga (huge skip ik). I was really into the gohan and dinosaur friend episode and the orphanage episode. Rewatched those a bunch of times. I used to imagine myself being kid gohan and beating people up =]

I wasnt aware of it until early 2000s and by then I was already in my mid 20s. I was dating a woman whose son was into Dragon Ball Z. I watched some episodes with them and became hooked. Then watched it on my own and enjoyed it so much that when Dragon Ball came on I watched and enjoyed that too.

So me becoming a fan was very non typical way. I didnt grow up with and I started with Z.

I remember watching new eps of the Buu arc on the International TV channel with only one ep per week and no subtitles. I'd never do that for any other show ever, but DB was special and I loved every second of it.

It's crazy to think back then that if we missed an episode, you just had to watch the following episode and try to pick up the context on what happened. Then wait like 2-3 months before it loops back and hope you catch it. On demand spoiled us today

I seem to recall there was a point where they aired the same episode at 2 different times in the day (like afternoon and then in the evening) so more people could catch it. But maybe I'm misremembering it

Really? I didnt know it aired then. I know UPN or ABC or whatever had it at like 5 or 6 in the morning before Toonami had it

There needs to be a poll on if the Rock the Dragon intro played during the Toonami run, because I swear I see people say it all the time but it NEVER played when I watched it. Whenever what show was on before DBZ would end, it'd go to commercials then DBZ would just instantly start with "Previously on DBZ..." with the recap, but never an intro. But now that I'm typing this out, I'm realizing it could have entirely been a local thing where my cable chose to add more commercials than letting the intro play. Although I feel like the episode recap started exactly on the half hour or whenever DBZ was supposed to play.

My first encounter with DBZ was in France when I was 8 years old visiting my aunt and then-future uncle. One of his relatives had kids who had a SNES and a French-localized DBZ game which I later learned was called Super Butouden 2. I had no idea what it was and thought it was a weird French thing. It may have been another year or two before I saw the show and learned it was actually from Japan.

I looked forward to seeing those 90s toonami ocean dubs after school so much.

I remember playing this online turn based fighting game based on DBZ and it was super weird but me and my fellow ten year old friends had a blast playing it

Wish I could remember the site, it used still images of your fighter and their attacks so it was very basic

This shit was literally heart stoppingly exciting

I remember leaving my grandma's house one day, helping my mother move stuff to the trunk of her car and finding two DBZ vhs tapes back there. I can still remember one of the covers had SSJ2 Gohan at the World Tournament about to get jumped by Spopovitch and Yamu. I had no idea it was Gohan because Toonami hadn't gone past the Android Saga at that point but I was so excited to see some new DBZ. I remember seeing the SSJ3 transformation and Vegeto on vhs too before Toonami got there and my friends not believing me when I would tell them what I watched.

I remember grade 7 or something, they would have dbz on up to the very episode Future Trunks shows up in front of Frieza. And then they would loop back to the beginning. My friends and I would be like "who is this guy? When are they gonna show us what happens??"

The wait was agonizing, but those were good times.

i remember being really bored by it and only really watched it when my brothers watched it. i couldn't understand what the appeal of the boring fights was meant to be but my siblings really loved it

First episode I saw was Goku getting on Namek and wrecking the Ginyu Force. I honestly didn't know what I was watching but it was unique and different. We just got Cartoon Network for the summer(our cable company apparently got it as a promotion I guess) and suddenly I'm watching Toonami and there's this thing called 'anime' and I was immediately hooked.

Then kids at school were bringing pictures they printed off the internet and sharing rumors and theories about a series that was already over in Japan lol. After the promotion, the company kept it going for some reason and I remember because we finally finished the Frieza saga and as soon as the Android saga started(which took longer than it should have tbh) they cut it. At this point they were playing new episodes on Saturdays and I went to sleep at my aunt's house and watched it in the mornings.

I went to my uncle's and got to play the Cn games. It was great. The Cartoon Cartoon games and the Toonami games...all so much fun. I remember the Gundam one too.

The Gundam one was hard but fun. I remember discovering an exploit that made it way easier though. if you get a winning move and just mash it repeatedly, it'll count as multiple hits and OHKO anyone lol

I didn't know that. I was a little kid though and I was just playing the hell out of it. I really miss the old days...such nostalgia...*sigh*

Dragon Ball Z and then they finally came out with Dragon Ball which came on at 4 and I was happy because I got home by 4 and missed out on everything from 3 and on. So I'd get home in time for Dragon Ball and Z and Tenchi Muyo and then later on they started releasing Yu Yu Hakusho which first showed on Adult Swim and they were finally going past the Four Saint Beast arc so it was just amazing stuff.

I was really hooked on this stuff. Dragon Ball Z was my first anime and AT changed my life.

It's possible. I can't remember for sure what I heard back then honestly. I just know I never heard the one with lyrics like in the opening until I caught DBZ during the midnight run. I caught the midnight run before I saw any movies I think.

funny you mention it because its probably the same thing I found. When I was a kid, I found a site called Dragon Ball X and on it had one of the Sailor Scouts and Goku in an 'embrace'

I was young and I actually used to make my own fanfiction and called it Dragon Ball X lol. I was this stupid little kid who made my own character and even involved characters from other series...like I had a crush on Sakuya from Tenchi in Tokyo so I had her in it lol.

Hell, I came up with different colored Saiyan hair years before! But they also had elemental features like blue for water and red for fire and it was unlocked through training using that specific aspects of nature.

I was a kid so...lol. I used to write it and walk in circles on my trampoline and just play it out in my head.

I remember watching the Emperor Pilaf Saga ad nauseum on YTV. Had no idea the story continued beyond that.

I got in trouble as a kid because I recorded the "history of trunks" tv special over my sister's high school graduation tape lmao
