To give you an idea of how it's going to look, I bought this really great asset pack for $35 which has everything I need.

I'm making it for fun and to learn game dev. It's going to be similar to Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons type of game.

I'm a total sucker for Harvest Moon type games. I actually like the spinoff Rune Factory better but I still have a strong love for Harvest Moon or as you pointed out now known as Story of Seasons. Anything that has a decent farm element to it though tends to grab my attention.

Make my character have an epicly long beard because I do in real life. It's huge, very thick and past my waist. Also when it comes to video game characters they treat middle age like elderly people near death so considering I turn 48 next month you probably have to make me old and retired in video game land haha.

If you can make a character with a paper bag for a head that rotates it to different faces to express emotion go for it.

Like there is nothing on the back and the face looks like this

then they turn it around and it looks like this (with nothing on the back)

Or something like that. Hopefully you get the idea the paper bag is their face, kind of like hexadecimal, but spinning the bag a full turn to change faces.

If too complicated don't do it obviously.

Nope. I'll going through the graphics I bought now and sorting everything out. Then I plan on working on the landscape. Then I'll make some buildings and start on the characters. It will be a while before I start making them but I'm saving everyones name in a word document.

I've played every Harvest Moon game since Harvest Moon 64 came out. Then I played the SNES one when it came out on VC. The only one I didn't buy was the most recent one because I gave up on that title. I even played the two Switch games because I wanted to give them a chance before trashing them. I've played every Story of Seasons game as well except the Doraemon one.

I apologize, I am not trying to be difficult on my suggestion, it is just always how I imagined a game character if I could make one. I was a big fan of hexadecimal from reboot.

Sounds interesting. Though I honestly have no idea what my character would look like or do, other than be monkey themed in some way.

I'm happy to be included. Ideally ensconced in the woods as a dashing vagabond or puckish sprite if either character type suits the game you have in mind.

Have had a busy weekend and didn't have much time to work on it. Plus I had to spend some time playing FF7R. I'm having a hard time figuring out where I want to place a barn for animals and the field for crops but I'm quite liking this tileset so far.

I raised Ruby on the bottle which is usually a 50/50 success rate. She would climb up my front porch steps and look in the window till I came out with the bottle. I had her 5 years before I sold every thing. It broke my heart to let her go. I had hoped to "board" her with a friend. It was not to be.

Why not let the player choose?

Animations are a lot more complex than I thought they were. I've decided to use a sprite sheet instead of importing each image. It's an easy process but then you have to set up the animations and then create an animation tree so the game knows which animation to play depending on keystroke.

I also am going to have to do some minor pixel art to rotate my arms to use farming tools and animate the swinging process.

If my idea was too hard feel free to scrap it obviously. Heck if you dont want a paper bag headed character in the game scrap my character entirely if need be, as that wont bother me as this was just for fun, and I dont want to ruin the fun.

My boy can finally walk instead of going in a straight path looking down at all times. Going to work on farming tools tomorrow so I can start harvesting crops. I just need to edit my farming tools to add a swing animation which shouldn't be too difficult now.

Sure.

I have my sprite set up for watering but having some trouble getting the function set up to watering the crop. After that I'm going to set a timer that evolves the crop until it's fully mature.

Then I'll need to find a way to an inventory of sorts.

It is interesting how challenging it seems to make video games. It makes one appreciate the programmers in games even more.
