This thought is always followed by

"Oh my god. I forgot about that mini game. Nevermind."

Who else does this

That is me and FFX every. single. time.
I've always wanted to do all the optional bosses and such, but you're required to do the awful minigames in order to obtain the weapons that allow you to break the damage limit.
Think SE should be forced to just have Triple Triad be the minigame for every main FF installment as it's the only minigame in the franchise actually worth a damn.

Anytime I've come to that decision, I've stuck it out. But it's very rare I decide to completely max my party.

I think I've only done it in FF6 (Advance) and FF10 (HD).

Weird, i was specifically thinking about FFX when I made this. I forgot about all the minigames to get the celestial weapons, 2 of them I never managed to complete.

It is the biggest offender by far after all.
Even if you don't like Triple Triad, Tetra Master, Chocobo Hot & Cold,... there are ways to cheese it. Most of FFX's minigames rely on pixel perfect timing and/or a lot of luck. Think I never managed to do the chocobo racing thing and the 100 lightning dodges and not for a lack of trying.

Chocobo racing definitely has a bit of luck to it. Gotta get lucky on bird patterns.

Lightning strikes can be forced. In particular there's a crater that will force a strike every time you walk out of it. It's relatively easy to get a rhythm down.

Redoing 80+% of the sphere grid to make every stat node a +4 took me way more time than getting the celestial weapons.

This was me recently replaying Legend of Dragoon. Normally I rotate my party and max out all their additions. This time, I picked a core party, and even there, they didn't learn everything. I guess I had just pushed to the back of my mind how slow the game actually is.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.

Yeah, I know that. Still gets a well deserved "fuck off with that nonsense" (the minigame, not you trying to help). I know fun is a very subjective thing, but I can't for the life of me see how anyone would enjoy doing that.
And that still relies on you getting the timing just right 99 subsequent times.

I'd much prefer if they would have just locked all those things behind blitzball. I know it's not everyone's thing, but at least you can follow a guide to build a team that pretty much guarantees you a win.
