Apparently this developer's games have never been on PC, so I'm in panic mode. Ogre Battle is one of my all-time favorite games. I am getting my work bonus this week, which would cover the purchase of a console, but I'm 100% a PC gamer right now. Switch is the cheapest option, but wondering how much the graphics will suffer, and if Nintendo has figured out their shit yet with the joycons.

It doesn't release on PC at all. Which is why I'm debating this.

It depends. If you want the ability to play it handheld then Switch. Otherwise PS5. There are no real performance or graphical differences that will negatively impact your experience, so it really comes down to preference on that front. Someone in the other topic said that the PS version controlled better than the Switch version, but I can't say that I have personal experience on that front.

Switch.

As you said:

  • cheapest
  • also handheld
  • It's not a game that benefits that much from hardware power

I have a PS5 and a Switch, and I'm going to get it on the Switch for sure. I just see no reason why I should limit myself to TV only for this game.

Would I still need a Pro Controller or other optional controller, or are the Joycons fine now?

It's turn based. Why would you need a pro controller?

I would definitely recommend buying an optional controller for TV use (I use a Pro, but I doubt it matters too much so long as the controller isn't just a scam). The joycons are good enough for handheld, but I think that they kind of suck for use on the TV.

It's real time w/ pause.

The controls seemed pretty chill when my wife was playing the demo. Admittedly, she was playing handheld

Joycons are mostly fine.

Ofc I also prefer the pro controller on TV, but I even use the joycons playing Smash locally (if we are 4 people and don't have enough controllers otherwise).

If you're buying a console for just one game I'd probably go with a Series S. Cheap, one of the best digital media players on the market, technically isn't at the end of its life as of yet.

Switch has a shit ton of games that are worth playing tho.

I done did it. Bought a Switch, I'll just wait on a controller to see if I like the Joycons or not. Thanks for the help!

Unicorn Overlord being a system seller to someone is certainly new to me lol. But Switch is probably the right call here since Switch has quite the collection of strategy/tactics games. There's also advance wars, triangle strategy, and fire emblem.

I frequently see the Switch lite for like, 150. If you're the type of Gamer who wants to get a console for Unicorn Overlord, the switch would probably also be your best bet for the rest of the library there. The Series S is a value option too I suppose, but I don't see why you'd bother over the Switch if you regularly play on PC. PS5 would be the third best option. And as a happy Series X owner, don't get one.

This looks like a game the Switch can actually handle well... and it's the cheapest and most portable.

So there you go.
