Really? Tales combat (in general) is fantastic. I hated the combat in Remake. Did they change it or are you making a bad comparison?

I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm genuinely curious because I'm on the fence about Rebirth. I love what I'm hearing about the world exploration, but like I said, I hated the combat.

I looked up the big spoiler as I disliked Remake's combat. Fun for those who like that though

It's fairly similar to Remake's but it's a hell of a lot more free-flowing, fast, and less...weighty I suppose you could say? Mid-air combat is dramatically improved, you have just as much mobility and options in the air as you do on the ground. They have a free demo if you're curious enough to check it out.

In terms of other stuff outside of the combat system, IMO it's the kind of RPG people have been wanting FF to go back to since FFX, it is really good.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into it more because the combat is the only thing really holding me back.

Honestly my biggest reason for not wanting to play either of the FFVII remakes is that I don't know if I have it in me anymore to deal with extensive anime dialogue.

There's a lot of new stuff in the combat which you could consider minor. I like the synergy abilities and yeah, there's a lot more to do in the air. I was playing with Classic like I did with remake but I feel like this game wants you to be more active, especially with there being some countering now.

I'm...kinda in the same boat. I remember several years ago watching the scene of Aerith rescuing Marlene from 7th Heaven before the plate collapse; it must've been the Japanese version because it was unbearable, as in "holy shit, this can't be how the creators envisioned these characters in the original game, can it?!"

I think the American version must've gotten some good localization though, because other scenes I've seen since then are much better.

Didn't care much for remake but receiving this as a gift in a few days because they know I liked the original web I was a kid, and no use turning down a free thing I was going to get on sale.

Hoping the combat is better, FF7Remake was piss easy and felt too floaty. I didn't really care for it at all.

IIRC it wasn't the dialogue that stuck in my craw so much as Aerith was over-gesticulating her every animation like a J-Pop idol on ecstasy - cringey behavior in any context, but especially when you're trying to rescue a little girl in the few precious minutes remaining before a literal city falls on your heads. Which might explain why I can't remember whether it was in English or Japanese. I guess it's a moot point anyway, since it's a single half-remembered prerelease clip versus all the other clips I've seen since which were much more tolerable.

From what Ive played so far, its still there as part of the game dna, but its toned down and more self aware. As in not afraid to poke fun at itself. Also Im pleasantly surprised at the characterizations. They tried to make them a bit more like real humans, specially Tifa and Aerith. Overall theyve toned it down

Well I looked up the ending, it seems very stupid.

Also, two games to get through Disc 1? They're gonna have to cut a good chunk of Disc 2 and 3 content at this rate.

Not really, considering disc 3 is literally one dungeon.

^This. Disk 2 covers the crater + weapons attacking + Midgar revisit. They can easily add the single and final dungeon of Disk 3 to game 3 and it'll work out fine.
