Why wouldn't they be able to get federal dollars like from FEMA, or National Guard assistance, or call in fire departments from neighboring states?
Lack of time, logistics and planning? Otherwise its just going to be a clusterfuck of countless departments from all over besides one another not knowing what to do, where to be or how to optimally mobilize their equipment and personal.

I wonder if they plan to or are digging a fire line in front of the nuclear facility. The crews have probably been chasing it with no way to get ahead.

I live in this area and it's the perfect storm that caused this fire to spread so fast. First off, we had 70-80mph winds yesterday along with temperatures way above normal for February. The fire was burning extremely fast to the West. I have family in a town called Canadian and in another town called Fritch. Both of these towns had to be evacuated and there are probably dozens of homes, structures, and businesses gone.

Then, about 3-5 pm yesterday evening, a fast moving cold front came in and pushed all the fires south.

The nuclear plant became in the direct path of the fire. Living close to the facility, they were in contact with our neighborhood and explained that a barrier was being built and that all dangerous weapons/materials are secure. They are trained for a wildfire to go through the facility and it would not cause a nuclear explosion or meltdown.

This area of the country is absolutely wild and we are having a very calm day today so hopefully fire fighters will be able to get ahold of them and help get them put out. The Texas Governor has issued our area a state of disaster and will be sending help our way. Tomorrow we are expecting some snow. I have a feeling that these fires will be burning for days on end for awhile because they are simply massive.

Are you sure he isn't overseeing more razorwire construction over the Rio Grande? Or punching puppies somewhere?

I suppose Texas will once again be asking for Federal dollars and help from neighboring states to help put out this fire...

Times like these you would think these idiots yelping about Texas seceding from America would take a moment like this to realize it's not all murdering brown immigrants and letting school shooters go to town while your cops cower in fear... there's more to governing a functioning society.
Oh Torgo, expecting Republicans to have foresight and actually think their decisions through.

You silly goose you.

As of today Pampa is doing okay, they had a humongous evacuation yesterday and there were cars as far as the eye could see. I haven't heard of anything crazy happening there thankfully.

I'm hesitant to do it, but fuck it. Imagine if this was going on in California right now. It would be all over the news, but haven't heard that much about this.

The wildfires have already scorched about 2,000 square miles roughly the same amount of land as the entire state of Delaware.

That's insane. Thankfully seems only 2 people have died so far, which seems incredibly low for not only how large this is but how fast it is moving.

Yep, I wonder if Trump will say TX should have raked their leaves, or raking the leaves was the problem, forget exactly what his stupid ass said.

Fortunately the panhandle is the most sparsely populated part of TX. It's also the part of the state prone to tornados.

It probably helps that most of this area is pretty low population. Population for entire counties is under 1000 for some of them.
