It was built on clay-rich soil into which it is now sinking and is prone to earthquakes and highly vulnerable to climate change. Its perhaps one of the last places anyone would choose to build a megacity today

I don't know how one would move a city, but it might be time to move the city. Or at least to start before all the water runs out.

Losing a full 40% of the water you're trying to pump in due to leaks doesn't help either.

This is kind of scary, it would be awful to be trapped in that large of a city with no water

i would hope the mexican government and the international community can step in before it gets to that point

This is a disaster 500 years in the making that no one ever did anything about. Same reason the entire city is sinking.

Probably in the long run best to just abandon the city and let nature reclaim it.

The cartels run the country. You don't seriously think they give even a half fuck if the city runs out of water do you? The rich and powerful never go hungry or thirsty, and if anything this is a perfect opportunity for them to strengthen their stranglehold on the people and expand into a new venture (selling and controlling water). Hell I'd go so far as to say it could even be a powerful recruiting tool, "join us and never go thirsty". I can actually see that happening it's as heart breaking as it is terrifying.

Yes? They also have a tendency to go ham on any business or organization that opposes them. What made me start to give zero fucks about people fleeing Mexico via the border was reading stories of them shooting up schools and murdering teachers in their homes because they don't want the population educated and having options for a better life. The cartels view children as potential recruits and soldiers. The kids can't even go to fucking school. They want them uneducated and having no options beyond agriculture or crime. And nothing is done about it.

I remember reading a story on how Cartel members/Gang Members get recruited. They find a bunch of kids and take them to an area where they can have a bunch of food to eat and games to play until they ask them to join. The worst part is if a kid said no they stab them to death as an example to the other kids who join out of fear.

Yeah it's beyond horrific. Like I said, idgaf about people coming here legally or illegally if they're fleeing from that madness and I think people who demonize illegal immigrants from Mexico have absolutely no idea just how terrible and hopeless the situation is there

You underestimate humanitys capacity for ignoring things. More specifically, those in charges capacity.

as someone who supports some of the worst and most short sided policies its pretty funny seeing you say this
