Almost always for warnings (unless it's like, I was drunk or something and posted a clear violation); only if it's pretty clearly wrong for NKLs.

I've also had a very high overturn rate lately. I think I've had one moderation, an NKL, that got upheld in the last 6 months. Even that one, I've had others that were basically the same thing overturned, so must've just been bad luck with who was online at the time.

Only the arguments from the sorts who are liable to be (mentally or physically) waving around a tome or cross as they make it.

The actual logical argument against it is simply because it can result in a child, and children born from nuclear siblings are more likely to have negative effects from inbreeding.

The concerns of a gay couple having children made from themselves is not an issue since the biology for that requires opposites and not alikes. And even if a gay couple were to undergo some kind of procedure or stem cell shenanigans to allow them to have their own kid, the worry of inbreeding defects would not be a problem for their kid.

The main issue from inbreeding is an increase risk of autism, which is already an ever increasing risk for strangers. If the health of the child argument was valid, you would need to apply it to all people wishing to reproduce because the populace as a who are at ever increasing risk of carrying a disorder they could pass in to descendants.

I have read a little in this as well. At least one scientific article which said most people overestimate the damaging effects inbreeding can cause. May be greatly overexaggerate it based on scientific tests that have been done on this

Yea, most stuff concerning inbreeding either come from historic royalty like the pharoahs and various european royalty that did it for hundreds of years and from pop culture like The Hills Have Eyes.
Obviously if you have a hireditary condition you probably don't want to go around baby making with your immediate family, but otherwise the risk is relatively minor and by the time you reach cousins the issue is basically at the same level as a stranger.

Every warning I've had in the last 6 months or so, and maybe about 50% of the NKLs I've appealed, have been overturned.

And yes, I wouldn't believe it either if someone else had said they had that kind of result.

I also had two overturns on this account prior to that (quite a low rate compared to total appeals for me back then), which was already more than the one entire overturn I'd had since 2004ish but prior to this account.

Same. I haven't had the ability to appeal for about 2 years.

The last time I got modded was a 6 month suspension for calling someone an "illiterate clown." I took it to dtoast and he overturned that bullshit. I also asked him why I couldn't appeal. He said he'd look into it. Two weeks later I followed up with him and he said he hadn't had time to investigate yet. Never did hear back so idk what the deal is.

I don't get modded that often, but it does tend to come in waves rather than the odd isolated one. Usually get a wave every 2 months or so.

Of course I've had ones I thought were wrong; I wouldn't bother appealing otherwise. Problem is, some of the rules are so vague, and moderators so prone to injecting their own assumptions about anything you don't explicitly spell out, that it's still generally a bit of a crapshoot. Many are likely valid based on hidden details of what exactly the rules cover, if paired with the assumptions the mods have made; but they often won't tell you these details or assumptions and will almost never believe you if you try to correct the assumptions, even if you can point to other posts that show the assumptions are wrong.

The only moderation I've ever had that was upheld all the way yet I can objectively, 100% say for sure was wrong, was a moderation for censor bypass when I didn't have any banned words (incorrectly censored or otherwise) in the post but was replying to a topic with a bypass in the title. The original mod's response suggested they thought I made the topic (and thus wrote the title) but no fucking clue how it got upheld by admin. This was way back in the CJayC days.

Offensive or Trolling. It's pretty much 50/50 what you'll get when you have a clear history, but once you have one on your history they'll almost always hit you with the same one going forward. To the point that I've had one labelled as Trolling but with a mod comment explaining why it's "offensive" with no reference at all to trolling. (That one got overturned, by the way.) And another that was moderated as "offensive" but the mod note claimed it was because the post was misinformation (which it would have been if it weren't blatantly obvious satire).

I suspect "abusive" likely gets used in a similar way now that it's replaced the more concrete "flaming", but I haven't seen that myself. The only moderation I've had under that one got overturned, so I never got to see if all further ones would get labelled under it or not.
