Super into media preservation that's why Cartoon Network/Boomerang/TCM exists. Challenged Rupert Murdoch to a fist fight twice because he hated his guts. Pro-Palestine at a time when it was political suicide. Big on global warming (Captain Planet was basically his baby). Thought anti-abortion people were bozos. Created WCW just because he thought wrestling was fun. Against media monopolies and thought few companies owning every station would hinder creativity.

Dude pretty much let anyone who worked for him with an idea use IP Turner owned to make whatever they wanted to a certain point. There's a story that he saw Space Ghost Coast to Coast randomly one night and thought it was so cool he called up the studio and demanded they aired it on the Turner Superstation.

Plus he rocked that mustache and was married to Jane Fonda for a few years. We'll never have another one like him again.

He has done a lot of amazing stuff. It would have happened anyway but the only blemish to me is helping usher in the 24 hour news cycle. I think ultimately the way news is covered because they need to cover 24 hours has been somewhat of a negative.

Putting that aside though I have to say though I absolutely loved Space Ghost Coast to Coast in the 90's. When I got home from the military in 99 I started my current job and was working 2nd shift when I started and that was on every night when I got home.

Even a couple years later in 2001 when they launched Adult Swim I would watch Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law and was catching episodes of Futurama and Family Guy from when it was relatively new. There were other shows too. The lineup of what I watched was so strong back then.

Tbf I think Turner's intentions with CNN were probably good. Dude just wanted to see how far a network could push cable and satellite tech. But it was sorta a pandoras box type situation. Either way if Ted Turner didn't create the 24 hour news cycle Rupert Murdoch probably would have and idk what that would look like today

I choose to believe the robot chicken sketch about Ted Turner was only loosely based on a true story rather than an out and out gag.

Jeez, so that Family Guy joke about Mr. Pewterschmidt's greyhound might've been more than just a random gag.

All Family Guy random gags are based on Hollywood secrets.
