Managed to pull 265 lbs (includes weight of bar) with effort. I might have been able to go higher but I never deadlifted before and there was nobody there so I didn't want to risk injury.

not bad! and good on you for being safe in the gym. there was a tryhard at my gym, he sacced form to compensate for the weight and threw his back out. he's still in physical therapy afaik and has not been back to the gym since. so i always tell people, don't lift at your max. lift a bit below your max!

Isn't that a bit much considering you never have deadlifted before? What's the difference between regular deadlift and the trap bar? Does it help with posture?

Yeah, started at two 45's, then added smaller weights.

I do a job that can involve manual labor so I have an idea of what I lift sometimes. When I say lift, I don't mean weights in a gym but just picking shit up and manipulating them.

imo that's a big yes. regular bar is always going to be in front of you, which is fine as long as your form is good and you're not overdoing it. trap bar lets your hands rest naturally at your side, you don't have to compensate for the weight sitting in front of you. to me it feels much easier to keep good form and just feels more natural.

Interesting. I was always afraid to deadlift because of the potential for injury, but eventually did it for a bit and got up to 150 lbs with the help of straps. I've always seen the trap bar and been intruiged by it, so I might give it a go.
