And The Marvels was a lot higher than both. Some movies are more efficiently made than others I guess

Some things inflate budgets a lot. Still surprising to see what many indie and cult films can do with a fraction of the budgets. Saw Adam Chaplin and Onyx the Fortuitous recently and the effects in those films are amazing, which makes sense because theyre almost fully practical.

I still suspicious that Marvel budgets is a money laundering practice.

Marvel budgets are so high because they have way too many crew members on set, plus a massive post production pipeline.

The first one wasn't even good

It's a musical and presumably about Harleen Quinzel falling deep into massive psychosis, so they could have a bunch of extravagant musical numbers.

wonder how much of that moolah is going to Joaquim Phoenix and Lady Gaga...

No excuse for that budget based on what we saw from the first film.

The Marvels is a high concept, special effects heavy movie with a big cast. So while I think it would have been smarter of them to make it cheaper, $278 million isn't that crazy of a number. I mean, it's not hard to see where the money went.

But $200 million for a Joker sequel... What the fuck are they spending it on?

(And I don't know if I'd give Dune that much credit for being efficient. There aren't that many different locations to show, and compared to other science fiction franchises the technology isn't very flashy so it's relatively cheap to make into movies.)

Did Taxi Driver have a sequel for them to rip-off too?

If they cast Lizzo as Harley Quinn it would make sense.

I mean the first movie literally made a Billion dollars at the BO, so the sequel getting a severe increase in budget is not out of the question. I'm thinking most of that budget is going to go into the "musical" parts of the movie.
