I mean, as someone who never played through the original FF7 in its entirety, these kinda just feel like 3 separate, full-fledged games to me so 4 year gaps are fine.

Amazing how people are still whining about this. Like someone else has said, it's not the same PS1 game. Also, not everyone who enjoyed Remake even played the original first. I'm one of the ones who started with Remake and wholeheartedly loved it.

Square enix wants money, if they could do it any faster they would, but they cant compromise quality. And about quality, its much much harder and time consuming to recreate high fidelity 3d assets, full with mocap and voice acting for every animation and moment they speak. They could have done modern production values without adding dozens of hours of padding to each part to turn one game into 3. Im not even saying I wanted them to do that, but to act as if they had no choice but to turn one game into 3 is silly. Also, a lot of us are really sick of modern production values where SE is concerned anyway. they had to split it. they're expanding on the og game. like costa del sol isn't going to be only haha look at hojo, let's kick a ball at red xiii and dip. there'll be more to it. they're not going to be rebuilding these areas from the ground up only to have a minute or two worth of content in it. it would be a waste of time. and if they cut it out, people will cry about it. and when you apply that expansion of content to the og, you're making a behemoth. do people remember ff7? you go to a ton of places. they're expanding all of it. if they did this in one game it'd be 100+ hours of just story, which would get complaints.
my only problem with this being a trilogy was making midgar into a whole 40 hour game. it's the biggest single portion of og ff7, but it's only like 5 hours. modern version should be like a 10-15 hour section attached to a bigger game. people are going to do trilogy b2b2b runs and that's going to be the worst part of it, easy. but it's not like we're getting cheated out of our money (unless you don't like the product). from the look of it, we're going to get more from rebirth than we got out of most square games. --- http://i.imgur.com/O5APL.jpg http://www.last.fm/user/jaeganja ... This is why I can't personally be offended by FF7Remake's existence even if I wanted to be; outside of the OG game, my FF7 fandom died fifteen years ago (swiftly put on life support by Advent Children, and then Dirge of Cerberus came along shortly thereafter to deliver the killing blow).
