It's not about offsetting calories. It's about not adding more calories unnecessarily.

A large fry from McDonalds is 160 calories more than the medium that comes with a meal. A non-diet soda is 200-300 calories. So...yes?

My aunt only drank diet coke and kept eating shitty food. She stayed fat her entire life. I think people believed it was actually a weight loss drink back in the day. The name diet can do that

Being that math is a science, yes it is. A large meal with diet soda has fewer calories than a regular meal with non-diet soda.
