I'm not talking about emulating the PS5, I'm talking about how there's so few exclusives on it
I'm the wrong person to argue for those then, I think the only exclusives I have are FF16 & the PS4 version of 7 Remake. I didn't care at all for the Spiderman games or GoW so I'm probably an outlier.
I mostly got a PS5 because the girlfriend & I got each other one while working through COVID to play together when free, & I like the better performance from the library of games I have. I left the Xbox ecosystem after the 360 because the next two generations have been kinda shit, so at this point I've just come away with the fact that a steam deck & a PlayStation are the best choices for someone who still has gaming as a major hobby in their free time.

I understand like someone else said wanting the exclusives, like if you bought a switch years ago you can just play that whole library on the deck & not have storage problems lol. But unless the switch 2 is amazing, even though insider reports said it's not going to be "revolutionary", I think sticking with the PS5/Deck is the best consumer option

PS5 has just started to get really good RPGs. I'm not ready to call this gen done yet.
Big games take a lot longer to make these days and silicon is not getting faster at the same rate anymore so it would make sense for console generations to last a bit longer. But Sony needs profits so they'll spit out a new console anyway.

The internal storage of the switch, it's unbelievably small, you should get better storage space internally without having to buy a 1TB SD card for it. So small that you could oftentimes not have space on the carts because the games needed so much to be patched in later onto the internal storage.

It's like you're trying to just be a bad faith asshole I swear to god

And the switch is $300 instead of $400-500

A 512 micro SD card is like $25 these days too. It's just more contrarian arguing on your end at this point because the storage is a non issue for the switch. It never was one

A Switch + 512GB card is still considerably cheaper than a Steam Deck with the same amount of storage built-in. Hell, you could easily put a 1TB or possibly 2TB card in your Switch and still get away cheaper than a 512GB Steam Deck, as long as you're not silly enough to buy a card that's priced higher just because of the name on it.

And let's be honest, that much storage space is overkill for the Switch anyway, unless you have an absolutely massive collection and insist on having all your games installed at all times.

Yeah totally, which is why the cost of storage being off-loaded onto the consumer in the case of Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, or Sword & Shield(two flagship games), had to have an entire games worth of patches put on internal storage & could only be accessible with Internet or you couldn't play 1/2 the content of them, is apparently a good thing to you. You can get 512GB of storage for 349$ with a steam deck & you're sitting here arguing for less than 40 gigs worth of storage on an 8 year old handheld, fuck off saying I'm contrarian when you haven't had a good argument this whole time.

I'm done replying to a guy with a stick lodged up his ass whose only capable reply is "but ur is being coNTrArIan". Just say you like older inferior hardware & own it, your entire response tree has been contrarian, over here projecting like Microsoft PowerPoint

The 512 is built in, what are you even waffling about right now? Go look at the steam store. The non OLED steam decks were 349$ with 512 internal SSD, the average consumer didn't need to upgrade anything. And then like you arrogantly pointed out as if I'm the clueless one, could just get a micro SD & give yourself another TB for 60$, that 500 gigs of internal storage is worth the difference

It's not a lie, it's my info being out of date since the last time I looked. The 512s went on sale last year & were running for 349$ after the OLEDs dropped because they wanted to sell the stock off. If people didn't get one I can't help that

You can point this out if I'm wrong, but the deck has dropped in price on at least two occasions. They had a general sale, & a drop when making room for the OLEDs. As it stands, I make the same argument for EVs compared to ICE vehicles. EVs cost more at the start, but you save more long-term categorically than over an ICE car.
You will pay a bit more for the steam deck up front, because you will see sales & lower prices than you do on switch software, which almost never has price decreases.

Even with switch OLEDs on the market, the old switch stayed at 300$ & has mostly done decreases only when it had Mario kart 8 or something bundled with it, & went to 279$ I think at its lowest. There will be a future steam deck "pro" model in the next two years I think valve said, & you will see more price decreases then.

In addition, if you value physical media a lot more, you'd get a switch as PC transitioned to all digital ages ago obviously. But the deck actually has regular price drops & will save you more in the long term & offer better performance and built in storage space which is why I rep for it as a product. If it was 4 years ago, I'd say the switch without ambiguity

Kinda wild how Xbox was getting flack for its lack of exclusives a week ago when Playstation has around the same amount lol first party exclusives are getting way more expensive and way less abundant. That's the future of first party games unfortunately.

Nintendo sitting pretty on their first party games tho. Switch is still the best console for unique gaming experiences across two gens.

These are rumors but some of them seem feasible. Something equivalent to the Series S (with FSR 3.0) with an LCD screen around $400 would be reasonable IMO. I do think they should offer an OLED model at launch, and it's likely a digital only model would be available for less.

There was nothing stopping Nintendo from grabbing a Ryzen 7640 or Z1 and creating a handheld around that. Could have turned that around a lot faster for themselves and game developers.

But no, they want to stick with ARM and building nearly everything from scratch over the course of years. Nvidia gave them scraps again.

People laugh at the idea, but Valve kicking off a handheld PC arms race is probably one of the best instances of actual market competition in years. Like if Sega came out with a game console again & it actually rocked & was worth a shit, it would mix things up substantially.

& Now that you have three large companies like Lenovo, Valve, & Asus all jumping into handhelds, Nintendo imo really does have to produce something at a very good comparable rate to match those PCs. We can predict backwards compatibility & such like that, but we really need to see it since it's going to be their mainstay for another 7+ years in all likelihood

Guessing the head honchos at Sony conveniently forgot how difficult it was for people to get PS5s for a few years and it's only been relatively recently where games are now in full force on the PS5.

They consider the PS5 in it's late life phase, while most of the comsumers still believe the PS5 is still in its teenage years (not early life but not midlife). Them rushing for the creation of the PS6 won't lead to the success they think it will.

Switch can use FSR 1.0 and iirc the dev kits can utilize 3.0

Spec wise it would be weaker than the series s but because of FSR 3.0 it would be a near equivalent

Assuming it took 4 years to get to "halftime", another 4 years till the PS6 comes out, that's about the normal life cycle of a PlayStation.

PlayStation was 1996
PS2 was 2000
PS3 was 2006
PS4 was 2013
PS5 was 2020

So 6-7 years is the normal "life cycle" for a PlayStation.

PlayStation Launch Dates:
PS1 = 1994/12-03
PS2 = 2000/03-04
PS3 = 2006/11-11
PS4 = 2013/11-15
PS5 = 2020/11-12

PS1 -> PS2 = 5 years, _3 months, _2 days
PS2 -> PS3 = 6 years, _8 months, _8 days
PS3 -> PS4 = 7 years, _0 months, _5 days
PS4 -> PS5 = 6 years, 11 months, 29 days

Given that the gap is growing with almost each generation as the PS generations progress, I expect:
PS5 -> PS6 7-8 year gap

Especially since the Pandemic screwed up logistics and delayed everything.

Theyre as big as they are for thermal reasons. Tiny machines have shit cooling. I literally bought a PS4 Pro despite owning a PS4 solely because the original PS4 sounded like a jet engine and the PS4 Pro has a gigantic copper heat sink and basically makes no noise.

IMO we're also hitting diminishing returns. Next consoles would have to target native 4k 60fps and I question if 8k gaming would even be considered yet

The hardware isn't there on the PC side.

We're only barely entering making 4K playable at high frame rates with top end GPU's.

And 5K Resolution is next.

I HIGHLY doubt 8K on consoles will be possible next gen, no matter the marketing.

Sure, if it's a ancient game remastered, I can see it being 8K, but nothing modern AAA that stresses the system will be 8K.

Native 4K at best with 60 fps w/o upscaling from a lower res is what I expect.

Here's what I mean by 5K resolutions:

How many console exclusives exist per console seems to be going down in general over the years.

According to wikipedia, PS4 had 58 and Xbox One had 12. There isn't even a list for Xbox Series X.

Meanwhile the NES had 373 exclusive games.

PS1 and PS2 maybe, as those are easy enough to emulate. PS3 probably isnt happening as that CPU was a bitch.

The reason Microsoft could do backwards compatibility is that every Xbox has been x86 as far as Im aware. So the newer Xboxes supported all the instruction sets etc.

PlayStation wasnt x86 until the PS4, and the PS3s CPU was notoriously complicated to develop for and emulate, etc.
The Xbox 360 wasn't x86, all the others (including the original) were.

PS1 and PS2 emulation is good enough for BC though. PSP and Vita are low power enough that emulating them shouldn't be a problem either. PS3 is the one system they could viably not include BC for on technical grounds.
