I'm rewatching GoT and he really caused half his army to desert just for his honor. I thought the Karstarks were just some of his troops, not that many. and he caused all the rest to die for more honor.

I think the idea is Robb Stark was a great general but a bad King.

He did everything right on the battle field but did everything wrong off the battle field.

I try to ignore the age differences because some of the stuff that happens to the kids in the books is just too fucked up. and I feel like there would be way more rebellions because old guys who have been to war aren't going to give a shit what a 13 year old says

Yeah it makes sense a teensy bit more in the books, but not by much. If all it took was a typical honeypot scheme to destroy him, you'd think his parents would have taught him about the birds and the bees

His reasoning is also different in the books. He felt that he was bound by honor to marry Jeyne Westerling because he had slept with her and taken her virginity, not because she was just some hot girl who showed up at camp one day.

Robb sucks in almost every way but it was his purpose to suck hard as the milquetoast heir to Winterfell.

and he slept with her after suffering an injury and finding out theon betrayed him and (reportedly) killed his brothers. Keep in mind the Westerling parents were also pushing Jeyne on him (and then making sure she drank an concoction meant for birth control once they did wed) as part of a scheme to get in tywin lannisters good graces.

He made a supremely dumb immature decision. He then proceeded to try to be like his father and put honor above reason. Which led to a bunch of really bad decisions.

He was also, due to his age, lacking in experience in the other manners of war. He trusted Bolton too much (who was more than happy to send northerners on suicide missions to try to weaken their numbers to make post war better for himself). He ruined two very important allegiances and did not do enough to make them better. He also did not do enough to make right about his mother letting Jaime Lannister go. Also he trusted Theon, which was his biggest mistake of all.

It's the same thing, just change hot camp to hot castle, it makes no difference. He still got seduced by some girl who happened to be in his nearby vicinity. The romcom-esque circumstances of his sleeping with her (he was sad and it was raining or some shit) don't matter because if it was that easy for him to sleep with someone, then... well, I guess it can't be helped. He has to take responsibility. His hips were moving on their own.
