Movies, books, games. Do you go by genre, alphabetical order, creator, color?

Organizing and displaying is one of my favorite parts of collecting. I order my movies and books by genre and like thinking about where new stuff will go and whether something like Aliens should go in the action, horror, scifi, or blockbuster section.

Music alphabetically (box sets separately).

Books by date of original publication.

Games are in storage boxes for each console, not on display. I take them out when I want to play them.

I used to go by titles alphabetically when I had physical media. For DVDs, it was movies, then TV.

Books are wherever they fit in a stack of about the same size.

Blu-rays are lined up alphabetically across my coffee table.

SD DVDs are in a couple stacks like books.

Games are grouped by system in vertical stacks, with ones I'm more likely to play whether by backlog (please don't laugh) or having multiplayer capacity at the top.

Mostly I have to use vertical stacks because otherwise I don't have enough shelf space.

Surprised alphabetical is so popular. I assume y'all keep series together regardless of title.

Books are arranged by genre, and within that, by author.

Thats really the only thing I have a sizeable collection of in terms of physical media these days.

Not super often but I see a number of examples just on my shelves. It would bug the hell out of me to separate series or break the order.

For my games and Manga, I have them alphabetical but also kept by series (For example, I have the Assassin's Creed games in the A section, but then in release order within that)...

Also my PS4 and PS5 are sorted separately... Which leads to some series splits... Like most of the Yakuza games are in the PS4 section and then Ishin and Infinite Wealth are in the PS5 section

Man, I'm really surprised everyone goes alphabetically. By genre just seems so natural to me.
