Tron Bonne is incorrect.

By the way, if anyone wants to give feedback on the game and/or rules, that'd be appreciated. I figured triple points probably was a little too high (double would probably be best in the future, with a few rules that go higher, maybe x3-5), but I'm curious how the random rules were received. I'd expand the rules in the future -- probably to sixty instead of thirty -- but I dunno if people want more positive or negative rules. I think there were only two in this entire game, and neither even affected anyone (point loss), so maybe I should get more inventive, lol.

I think the bonuses were interesting and adds a twist to the scoring. It also seems to be a way to add in ways to help people catch up to others that are coming into the game late or who miss a few rounds because of the timing.

Even though it was random, I did notice some bonuses seemed to pop up quite a few times throughout the course of the game. I'm curious how much bookkeeping you had to do to keep track of the scores with these bonuses. Do you predetermine which squares the bonus applies to going into the round or at the end of the round? (Example: The rule that scores more for the amount of colors in the screenshot, or the rule that scores more for animals, monsters, etc.)

The round bonuses didnt really impact how I played the game, as I wasnt looking to answer a square because it was worth a potential bonus. I was just trying to answer as many as I could.

Overall I had fun with the contest as I enjoyed just trying to answer as many as I could and as quickly as I could. I thought that some of the quality of the pictures threw me off to what generation the game was from as I would sometimes mix up PS4 graphics with PS2 graphics, but I dont know if that was intentional or just how the pictures come out with they way they were loaded into the squares. I dont think I would change the quality though as it may have just been my own misinterpretation of the picture.

The rules that kept popping up -- and were occasionally sequential -- were around the middle of the pack in my list, I think, so that makes sense given how I'm calculating which rule applies. In the future, I'd probably make each rule one-time-only, or have rules that make other rules permanent (or at least able to re-encountered).

Maybe send the puzzle as a dm to everyone that wants to play. Im not on during the day and I could probably answer more that way. Like grade everyone's card?

Hmm, that would probably slow the pace of puzzles to a crawl, though. And, honestly, the scorekeeping angle is annoying enough without having to do it for each and every player individually, lol.

If it does go to a PM system I'd suggest something like no re-dos or anything. People get the card, they make their guesses, and that's the one shot you get. In which case I'd suggest half points for getting a series right for very similar-looking games, but that'd be your discretion. But either way I can see how PM version would get annoying for the host.

For the rules, I think that fewer of the super elaborate ones would be a bit better? I saw the ones for Zuul and blue shells and my eyes glazed over by the end of reading over them, for example. If the goal is to better even the game out, I'd also suggest thresholds where beneficial ones stop helping higher scorers or disproportionately help lower scorers. If you really wanted to, you could even add things like "PvP rounds" where people can target others to subtract points with correct guesses, or "Co-op rounds" where everyone gets points but those who answer are penalized if the puzzle's not completed.

On that topic, I'd also suggest something like "events" to either pair with or sometimes have instead of the rules. Those could be one-time penalties or bonuses, possibly based on score position. A type of "disaster event" where everyone's scores get cut by a percentage for example. Or a "jump start event" where anyone who starts playing that round gets a set amount of bonus points. I was more just playing for fun rather than trying to win it all, but I'm sure there are some people who want to push for victory and would otherwise get discouraged if they come in late.

I did enjoy myself though, even if work made me miss a lot of the start of some puzzles. It was a nice little test of knowledge and at times a trip down memory lane. It was a good event.

Ew no.
Especially if the game series has similar artstyle and you must guess one of them.

Yeah, I tried to have fewer elaborate rules, but by the end, it was getting so formulaic, I had to mix it up a bit. Some of the more elaborate rules even overlapped a bit by letting people cancel downsides if you'd won a certain round, but that didn't come into play this time. Maybe I could make a Chutes & Ladders-style gameboard to help people visualize the bonus rounds instead of just reading from a text file, but updating it each round would be kind of annoying.

As for PvE-style rounds, I already had a few ideas for expanded rules. Ones where it's the leader-vs.-everyone are kind of fun (if the point leader shows up this time), or ones where I might give myself points in a made-up pool and people have to deplete it a certain amount for a bonus. Since the bonus rules were inspired by Planechase, I thought it'd be cool to do things that tweak the overall gameplay, like a bonus rule that let you do two puzzles at once (5x10 grid) or something.

I generally try to avoid rules that are feelbads, though, like "everyone just loses points" or "this guy goes bankrupt" or rules that disincentive answering in the first place. That's why I had that equalizer rule as the penalty for missing a threshold instead of reaching it, even though many might just hang back and not participate to get that "penalty".

Maybe instead of a Chutes and Ladders board, I could rig it like an old-school dungeon crawler, where you go from one room (puzzle) to the next. I'll have to play around with some ideas.

Hmm, might consider that next time. Usually I go through and change screenshots anyway, plus get rid of the vaguer ones, so hopefully that won't be necessary if I'm doing it right. I don't play like 80% of the games in this quiz, though, so sometimes I just pick a random image that looks cool (like that Psi Ops: TMC one) and shove it in.

I think in previous quizzes, I'd give about 15-30 minutes advance warning for puzzles, just so I wasn't stealth dropping them all. Maybe when I was fumbling through the first contests I did, I'd do set times, but it becomes kind of a chore after awhile (though not as much as keeping all old quizzes active).

There were a few times I accidentally repeated games, but only noticed after the quizzes were made, so it was too late to change 'em. Maybe I'll use a secondary QA method to use in the future to ensure it happens way less frequently.
