At no point does he ever look confident. He is always getting smacked around like a punk. He is always scared of his opponents, and surprised by how strong they are. He's always in great amounts of genuine pain. Every single battle with Blackbeard plays out like he's comic relief canon fodder.

And...he always wins. Usually off camera.

Basically, standard shonen rules don't apply to him. You're supposed to adjust your glasses and smirk and outline why you've read your opponents moves, or say some other cool thing. Winners don't panic right?

This never happens with blackbeard. He just sort of loses every fight until something (??) happens and then the good guy is dead. Totally unmeasurable level of strength.

Also another shonen rule he breaks. Everyone knows that you have to have an honourable straightforward fight to determine power levels. A character can be a dick but ultimately they nee to have a one-to-one battle at full power to show off who is stronger.

Not blackbeard though. He'll do anything.

How he and his whole grew took out an already injured Whitebeard. I still hated Sakazuki more though.

Hes definitely one of the more interesting villains overall. On top of whats already been mentioned hes highly charismatic and likable as well, enough so that his crew follow him out of loyalty and admiration rather than fear and or monetary gain.

And dispute his ambitions and what he has done and is willing to do still seems to have morals and genuine care for his crew.

Aside from that I like that hes one of the only legit pirates in the entire series aside from Kidd. Or at least one able to make it above the half billion mark.

He definitely seems like the second coming of Rocks makes me curious if he'll meet the same fate Rocks did where he got abandoned by his crew at God Valley since their objectives no longer lined up with his.

He is a spanner in the works. Whenever he and his crew show up expect the plans and goals of everyone else to go wonky and maybe fail.

The rules of the one piece world don't seem to apply to them.

I'm not looking too much at comments but the latest anime ep was great at showing his and his team's strength.

I actually see him as overly arrogant and confident in the battles he goes into, which is why he usually ends up getting his ass kicked a bit, but he's overly confident and underestimates his opponents because he knows he is going to win in the end due to his hax abilities. He also seems to be tougher than most and he can handle the damage he receives, which is probably related to whatever allows him to have multiple devil fruits.

I've had a theory for a while that Blackbeard feels so much pain every time he's hit due to a side effect of his (first) Devil Fruit power. The darkness he creates and manipulates functions like a black hole, so he's probably pulling in attacks with greater strength or something like that. I don't know how to explain it properly before having coffee lol

Also pretty sure that he's going to end up killing Urouge at some point and adding his power to his own, since Urouge is able to convert physical pain into greater strength. It seems like a natural way for Blackbeard to turn his greatest weakness into just another advantage, and become an even bigger threat when he ultimately faces off against Luffy.

Blackbeard basically states from the start that despite his fruit being a logia that he takes full damage from every hit.

I know that, I'm saying that his fruit also amplifies the damage he takes as a side effect. He definitely seems to feel hits a lot more than other strong characters (or in some cases weaker characters) do, even if he does get right back up afterward.

Also, does anybody else think that the Kuma backstory on Egghead was delivered at this point in the story to set up that Blackbeard is also a Buccaneer? Could explain why he's able to do stuff like have multiple Devil Fruit abilities.
