There's an easily missable file in Short Message that states that there's a "Silent Hill Effect" that is spreading to locations beyond Silent Hill.

There's a rumor that's what "Silent Hills" was going to be about, thus the plural.

Basically taking the idea that being close enough to Silent Hill is enough to get crazy (such as in 4 or Homecoming), and then just saying "well it can happen anywhere now".

Which does make it so that you're not confined to SH, allowing a bit more freedom of storytelling.

But yeah, Ascension is an absolute rambling mess.

with how silent hill can warp its self to fit who is exploring it you could have just had the town its self shifting more than previously thought

alot of the games lore is built on just the weird shit people do in the town (and a crazy man in the next town over keeping an umbilical cord despite not being part of any of this)

you cant just have every hospital doing the crazy shit that arkamilla pulls

I think the idea is that the shit with Alessa "woke it up" and it's growing more and more powerful over time. So in SH2, you still had to come to the town, but it's able to reach out little tendrils when there's connections like in SH3 or Homecoming's Shepard's Glen. Now after years and years, it's able to infect places all over the world.

indeed also makes the town feel less special

even beyond the cult its clear something is just WRONG with the town

also there is that sorrta kinda hint your characters are just seeing things "monsters they look like monster sto you"

and the police tape in SH2

obviously not a interpretation that should ever been leaned into just that sorta very minor hinting to add to the mystery of things

but if news reports are reporting on the fog world appearing every where kinda ruins that to

and again makes the town its self feel less special

4 and homecoming at least had the cult basically building a back door into things

and hell the town from 4 is normal (again out side of the creepy man who for no reason kept the umbilical cord)

kinda felt like the town was struggling abit to mess with things in 4

SH 2's dog ending was canon
