It means "lying" but I don't get the connection.

Like "That dude capped you" = "That dude was lying to you"

Where I come from getting "capped" means you were shot (i.e. "That dude was capped in the ass")
>_>

lately a lot of older terms from when i was a youngster now have new and/or multiple definitions.

cap = getting shot or playing the dozens. now cap means lying.

drip = reference to bloods or all red attire
now drip your outfit is really nice.

rizz i never heard of until recently unless it was an east coast term originally.

ebonics by Big L helps if you want to learn new slang or remember older terms.

The expression goes back to the 1500s, when you might cap an anecdote, quotation, or verse as part of a verbal jousting game. By the 1800s, capping was a way of competing by telling a better joke than someone else, and by the 1940s, Black Americans were using the verb to cap when trading ever more exaggerated insults, otherwise known as the dozens or the dirty dozens. In that way, capping became a synonym for stretching the truth.

I got curious and googled. Seems like most people attribute it to black slang, mostly from 90's hiphop. "High capping" was a term used to mean you were lying or exaggerating to make yourself look better. So if you said "no capping" after something, it meant "no, really, this actually happened."

Get your mind out of the gutter. Pinocchio is a puppet, he's probably smooth like a Ken doll down there.

What I wanna know is why a Gullah word became regular slang. Cause from what I can find "bussin" was Gullah Geechee slang before all the Zoomer/Gen Alpha started saying it.

Yeah, "cappin" was "Yo' mamas, butt so big..." outlandish shit said for joking effect. "No cap" just meant you weren't joking. Pretty much the same as the expression is used today.

As for the other meaning of "cap", and "drip", well, IYKYK.
