This would be a good suggestion if I lived in a populated area, but I live in the middle of nowhere. It's excruciatingly hard to find social opportunities, even if you aren't crippled with anxiety.

I think it can help to join groups in real life. I used to do Tae Kwon do and while it truly is a crappy martial I did meet some people. I have still have the friends from my dungeons and dragons group I've been with for nearly 2 decades.

I know its not the same but groups online can fill some of the hole, don't underestimate net friends

Nobody really gives me much of a chance.

I remember someone in school telling me that I needed to talk more, and whenever I did try (including with her), I just got talked over and basically ignored. Stuff like that is very discouraging.

Probably a hundred people spread across a few miles, most of them being old people. The nearest place with any actual density is around an hour away, and even then, it's not particularly huge. It's a lot better in comparison, though, I guess.

That's a bit of a tough question. I like quite a few things, but how well they lend to doing things with others is where things become muddied a bit. I play video games (mostly gacha these days, due to lack of funds), love listening to music (mostly metal), watching TV or movies (a bit of everything), anything to do with horses (though I've never been able to ride one, sadly), cooking, collecting plushies, etc. Not a lot that's conducive to meeting people.

My experiences have been universally bad, >.< . Letting them "roll off" is one thing, but after a certain point, where do you take the hint?

I'd try a card/board game shop.
There's plenty of overlap with folks there regarding things that you enjoy, and most people I've met at one are very friendly.

That actually would almost be applicable here, <.< . Drug addiction is a very big problem in my county, to the point of people joking back when I was in high school that shaking a pill bottle is the mating call of our area.

We had one around twenty minutes away when I was younger, but it's been closed for a very long time now. I'm not sure where the next closest one is... either way, what would you do there? Ask if they have any gatherings or anything?

No. I have a sister that's a few years older than I am, and I'm 29.

i was going to say, if you have siblings maybe they can introduce you to some of their friends or you can do all do something together that you all enjoy

I havent made a friend on my own outside of work or school since I was teenager. I did make some friends through friends I already had, but no friendships formed solely by myself and another person without a third person in between.
In adulthood, its weird to connect someone enough times to become friends because youre so busy and being a regular to many things in adulthood feels strange rather than a motivation to interact.

I encourage finding friends, but I wont lie and say that itll be simple and clean.

Where you live sounds kinda like my living situation over in Idaho. Small rural towns, lots of old people, big drug problem with meth heads and other drug addicts.

I've similarly had a lack of friends throughout my life as well as social anxiety issues. Only had one friend way back in elementary/middle school. Though I've generally had a lack of desire of making friend and lately more focused on dating.

I have a server on there with nearly a dozen other GameFAQs users from the NFL board who we chat during the football season. But I have a wide range of various things I like. Actually speaking of your music, I've been listening lately to a few metal bands as well (they might be referred to as power metal).

I was socially awkard as fuck, but I do think joining groups for things you enjoy doing or talking about can give you something easy to talk to someone about and this goes doubly so on the net. Though trying a hobby that might help you meet people is something to

same. I have some acquaintances but no real friends. in retrospect, I never really had any close friends throughout my life other than pets and family members.

I havent made a new friend since college. Only reason I still talk to the friends I do have it because I knew them for so long. We dont hang out much either. Like once a month if that. This used to bother me but now Id rather just be with my family

I have Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Twitter... I have a bunch of people on FB that I used to know in school, but we never talk. I actually am in a few groups (like a Strawberry Shortcake group, an Appaloosa group, a Big Brother one, etc.), but I don't often post out of shyness.
