Hopefully they convict the father as well.
Almost a certainty. He's more culpable than the mom.

To me, She isn't guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter despite making terrible decisions.

Is it a crime to buy a weapon for a child to use if the parents take care of it? Not in Michigan.

Did the parents handle the weapon properly? No, but that's not what she's being charged with.

Has a court determined the son to be mentally ill? No, but at the same time, it's being used as evidence against the mother.

Did the school take every measure possible to remove the kid from the school? No.

By that measure, the child is guilty and should be tried as an adult. The parents and school should be held responsible in a civil case maybe but not a criminal one. Fleeing the area is a reasonable thing to do in that situation even if you aren't guilty of a crime. The social media post is bad and she was negligent, but not to the level of manslaughter.

The fact that the school continued to allow the student to attend school after the note was found rather than expelling the kid after makes them responsible as well. Not to mention if the kid didn't have parents at the meeting, he would have been expelled without the parents being involved.

Once the mental state of the shooter is determined, she'll likely get out on appeal or early parole. And I believe the mother to be stupid and a terrible person. The father too. This is a lot like the George Zimmerman Trayvon Martin case because the local community is not really capable of giving a fair ruling and she's being charged with more than she's guilty of.

Father should be convicted if she is.

TLDR: It seems like she's guilty of criminal negligence but not involuntary manslaughter?

Courts have a different definition of mental insanity than normal people do. If you ask me, anyone who does a mass shooting is insane. Normal people don't do that

Her son shouldn't be in prison. He belongs in a hospital

I thought they said in court that he is not mentally ill.
He is clearly mentally ill. The question is whether or not it diminished his responsibility for his actions, and the court decided it didnt. I dont think theres any question that he is mentally ill.

It makes me wonder too: what's the message here from the court? Which thing could she have done different without the benefit of hindsight? Don't buy your kid a gun?

She should have had him seen by a psychiatrist as soon as she found his diary and drawings

Wow.
If she says she'd have done things differently, isn't that admitting guilt in some way?

Can every parent really be responsible for everything their children do, especially when its not foreseeable?
I feel like it's probably more foreseeable than this lady wants us to think it is.

I think she said she wouldn't have done anything different.
