I picked no, because the phone screen itself remained safe, but I have cracked the screen protector before. I was told long ago that tempered glass is a good choice but the last few times I've used them on my phone, they cracked somehow, and I take good care of my phone! Same goes for my switch! I use tempered glass on my switch too and only recently has it had a very very slight crack in the top corner of the screen protector.

I think they're made to crack, that way you think that it saved your screen from breaking so you buy another one, when your screen probably would have been just fine. The glass they use to make phone screens (Gorilla Glass) is much tougher than what they use for screen protectors.

yeah as long as no harm is done to your actual phone, they've done their job. there was a trending reddit thread the other day about how ballerina shoes only last a few uses, and the reason was that they broke down in exchange for effectively redirecting pressure away from the dancer. screen protectors are like a less extreme version of that- if a crack appears in the screen protector, it's redirecting force away from what would have otherwise been thrown at the screen

and it might have not resulted in a crack on your screen, but replacing a $4 screen protector is a lot more viable than dealing with a cracked screen

if they weren't there then the crack would have been on the screen

when a phone absorbs force, it will let the force out through the weakest material on the phone. in almost all instances, that's going to be the thin slab of glass on the front of it.

slapping something else than can shatter redistributes the force going through the phone to the weakest thing, in this case, that screen protector.

tldr, the weaker glass will absorb the shock hitting the slightly stronger glass.

Yeah contemporary phone screens are way stronger than they used to be, screen protectors are a product of a bygone era for the most part

It's still better to protect the screen from collecting little scratches
