really? iirc my state does not do this. You need a good reason you can't drive to polling place?

I was born legally blind so they wont give me a license. I just got a new bioptic telescope yesterday so I can start the long process of trying to get a license again, but it didnt work the last time I tried.

Polling place because I live in a more affluent area so there's no waiting times to vote and several polling stations within a few miles of me to spread it out.

In urban areas they'll put 1 voting place for every 10,000 people, while in my area, we get 1 for every 1-2,000 people.

The polling spot for me is a minute away and I vote by mail after I signed up prior to the 2020 election. It's actually good to do that because they automatically mail you ballots for every election now, even stuff you might not be aware of. I just got a ballot for fire commissioner the other day and didn't even know it was coming up. It also has a question regarding approval of their budget. I don't put my ballots in the mail box though, I go to a drop off spot at the Municipal building with cameras to prevent any shenanigans.

I haven't voted since 2012 and I did so in person.

My only options to vote are, currently, absentee/out of state mail-in.

Also, my home county has historically been so blood red it'd make the confederacy blush. so the only thing I can vote for and make any remote difference in is the Presidential election. And the county will still go 70+% for the Republican candidate

Washington state born and bred. I don't think I've ever had to go to polling place. We've been mail-in only since (looks it up) 2011. .... Looked it up and turns out I took part in 7 elections (mix of primary, general and specials) prior to that and yet, and yet I only recall going to a polling location once as a wee lad when my mum went to a school to vote.

It's so nice doing mail-in. A week or two before I get my ballot they send me a voter information packet, so I'll read that, look up anything that sounds fishy, make notes. They'll send the ballot, I'll fill it out in my shorts, sign it (no stamp, that's helpful)... then usually it'll sit around the house for a couple days or a week before I remember to put it in the box.

I don't get an "I Voted" sticker though. So there is that trade off. Convenience and a much more fair democratic system... or a sticker. People must love those stickers.

Always mail-in. I stand in enough fucking lines.

I'm a white male so if I drop off at a drop box no chuds baby-sitting the box looking for "librul ballot stuffers" is going to look twice at me.

My state went mail in only the year I became eligible to vote and Ive always felt a sense of loss of not being able to vote in person.

When I went with my parents to go to the polling place when they voted there was always this sense of community that cant be replicated.

Mail in ballot

I spent 90 minutes looking up all the different candidates and filling out the ballot last time, don't think I'd do well taking forever in the actual polling place.

That's a shame, Michigan sent out "I voted by mail" stickers last time.

Most people with blindness can still see to a certain extent, even if its simply changes in ambient lighting. Its only in rare cases such as Stevie Wonders where theres no ability at all to see (as his retinas have detached, causing him to live in a truly pitch black world relying on his other senses to compensate for his total blindness).

I don't hate the polling place, even volunteered for it a few times, but it was nice and convenient to do mail-in(drop-off) during the pandemic. It's just tough because even in a bluish state I believe it's easier to make challenges on those.

My vision is 20/200. Glasses dont help because the problem is not the corneas, its that ocular albinism fucked my retinas. Ive been told the only hope for treatment is injecting stem cells into the retinas and hoping they fix it, but they arent willing to actually attempt that.

As far as using computers and such goes, I just use higher DPI scaling, larger font sizes, and get closer to the screen as needed.

Mail votes are only a thing in special circumstances here (disability, or being outside the country at election time, mainly), so in person.

We have a period of about two weeks to vote rather than just a single day tho. I usually get in pretty early. Basically we do have an official election day, and it used to be you needed a special reason to vote early, but a few elections back they changed it so you don't need a reason, and I think I recall hearing that more people are voting early than on the actual day nowdays.

New Zealand is not a US state. No idea who mail votes would end up favoring here, but the early voting opening up didn't change much about the proportions of votes, just the total number.

I live in Michigan, we have to vote for the Board of Governors/Regents at some of the public universities. I don't want to know those people's life stories any other day of the year.
