Haven't started it yet, but this all seems like big changes

Some enemies you encounter out in the fieldthat is, the trash mobs you battle leading up to a boss fighthave adjusted attack speed and spawn locations so that theyre more predictable and flow better with a stages layout. Additionally, their stance break window, the stagger animation that opens a foe up for a lethal blow called a Fatal Attack, lasts longer so you can get that crucial damage in.

The update has some other combat balance adjustments baked in, as well. This includes tweaks like making some weapons hit harder (though the devs havent specified which ones), decreasing the delay between a charged and normal attack so you can chain combos better, and increasing the attack speed of heavier weapons depending on how you customize them, among other things. All of these changes effectively make Lies of P much easier, which is a welcome adjustment considering how punishingly difficult this game already is.

One thing worth calling particular attention to is the Rising Dodge ability, a skill that lets you roll after getting knocked to the ground. Previously, youd have to unlock this vital maneuver, which was buried deep within the games skill tree. Dodging in Lies of P is rather imprecise and sluggish without the move. Now, though, thanks to version 1.3.0.0, the Rising Dodge ability is yours off the rip, making the early game much less frustrating. This will absolutely come in handy when you come across the early shovel guard mini-boss, who will flatten you into a crispy wooden pancake if you dont either dodge or parry its attacks.

I played the game after most of the boss patches I believe and yeah, didn't struggle too much at all already. Really figured they were done making things easier still. Seems a little excessive.

I played start to finish after the first patch, and the game was a lot easier than the demo. There were only a few late- game bosses that took me more than 2 attempts to defeat them.

The quartz from the patch applies to NG+ too. Last night i was able to buy 3 quartz from Polendina, and the Rising Dodge was replaced with "guard retain doesn't disappear after using a pulse cell". I don't think that came up more than one or two handfuls of times for me so far, but I don't hate it.

I'm going to be replaying this for the foreseeable future regardless, but I think they overshot things a bit for sure.

It's possible to downgrade game versions through some steam fuckery, so maybe I'll do that when I eventually play.

Reading opinions about game difficulty always wrecks my self-esteem. >_>
Still, I can understand not wanting to miss out on how a game previously was, and it would be nice to have in-game options to that effect.

Yeah this is definitely the case of a new, less confident dev actually listening to the casual players and some clickbaity games journalists (you know it's true, come on) asking for an easy mode or to tone the game down. I haven't heard anybody who actually regularly plays Souls games have any issue with the difficulty, especially compared TO ACTUAL difficult Souls games like Nioh.

The thing is though, doing this right before Black Friday, it's probably going to actually boost sales for people who were scared to buy it!

If you're playing on PSN, you can always stop the patch from downloading or just play offline so it doesn't download

Hey, it's me, I had issues with the difficulty. Not like complaints, but I found it on the hard end of the genre rather than the easy end. I also doubt the early patch had the impact some suggested. I can't speak for the new one since I'd already finished with the game for now, but free Rising Dodge itself doesn't exactly break the game.

So, it seems like the patch has some elements that make the game harder as well, patching out a bunch of cheese strats. Too bad people are complaining about this without knowing all the details.

These all sound like pretty good changes (I say without ever playing the game), but I'm not sure why devs of these kinds of games are so allergic to just having multiple difficulty settings.

Well they didn't nerf Pandaemonium into the ground. That's the most abusable/fun subweapon in the game.

That's just false. A lot of people said it was hard at launch, including major youtubers in the community.

The demo was definitely tough, too. I wonder if that got updated with the new patch.

I think a substantial part of the demo being tough is that it ends with Scrapped Watchman.

I have it for PS5. Can I downgrade the version?

Only if you have a physical copy.

Delete the game, turn off the internet on your PS5, insert the game disc and let it install. Then play the game while keeping the internet off. You have to keep it off throughout the entire time you're playing the game or else it'll download the update the moment you start the game or it could even download it in the background (don't remember if it's possible to turn-off automatic updates).

If you have a digital copy of the game then well....you're sort of SOL'd.

For PC, not exactly, but it requires some extra legwork and knowledge of how to access Steam's internal database. Google it will bring up examples of how. Source: I've done it with a previous game.

i don't know if that necessarily counts as making it "harder". i've never played this game but i know someone who was complaining about this because the devs basically patched out certain tricks that were so obscure that a normal player could never find them but that speedrunners were using. sounds like that's a major no-no to a large part of speedrunning community who don't appreciate being fucked with, to the point where they may just revert to older versions to speedrun the game. but this is all second-hand-stuff i was told, i have no experience with any of it.
