If you take success and historical significance into account, it's arguably the best genneration. All three consoles and both handhelds all sold huge numbers. No other period even came close. The PS2/Xbox/GC era def had some games that ran slow, but many of the AAA games ran fantastic--in the Gamecube's case, some of the best looking games also ran at 60fps.
