The Empire knew that the Rebels were operating from that world. And the Rebels new that this would bring them hit. So the Rebeles were kind of using the people of that world as cover. So blow up the whole world and make sure that you get the rebels. If anything it is the rebels fault for living in a place where people were .

Destroying the entire planet instead of clearing civilians and performing a more tactical and surgical operation sorta makes the Empire a verifiably evil organization. Why would any peaceful Empire kill such a disproportionate amount of innocents just to kill a handful of rebels?

Except Alderaan really didn't have anything to do with the Rebellion. There were no bases there. No weapons. Bail Organa was on the planet, sure, but apprehending him was not the issue. The Empire could have snagged him at any time. He wasn't hiding. So the Empire's entire premise was wrong and even they knew that. They knowingly destroyed a planet as a power display.

What's more is that destroying Alderaan was a giant tactical mistake. It galvanized rebellion. It caused mass desertion in the military as the veneer of justice and order was ripped away for many of the enlisted. They made their enemies stronger and more determined to fight and built up sympathy for their cause. If they would have just attacked Yavin IV, a planet with actual rebel military presence, they would have dealt the rebellion a death blow while also not turning swathes of the galaxy against them.

Setting tactics aside, mass murdering civilians is evil, regardless of your objective. So even if the rebellion had a base on Alderaan, it'd be wrong to blow the whole planet up.

I am just talking about Star Wars man, since everyone is so mean to the Empire.

Consider this: the Empire stopped the Clone Wars, which had killed millions of people. How many lives did they save by doing that?

Under the Republic, many worlds were suffering. They even allowed slavery and the Jedi only cared about their own interests. The Empire brought order and peace to these places. The Rebels were the ones who caused chaos and violence.

The Empire had a fair system of promotion. Anyone could rise to the top based on their abilities. It didnt matter if they had the Force or not. The New Republic, on the other hand, had a privileged class of people who had special powers. The Empire ended that inequality.

The Empire also provided opportunities for education and training to young people. Han Solo was one of them. He got a chance to improve his life. Luke Skywalker could have done the same, if his uncle had not held him back. He could have joined the Empire willingly, instead of being kidnapped by the Jedi, like most youngins were.

They definitely were in the Legends continuity. It's a bit more vague in the current canon.

Qui-Gon was an asshole to the Jar Jar just because he spoke funny. Then he used the mind trick on the Boss Noss. This drags them into the their war. And will later end up with the Gongens being killed, in a battle that doesn't help them at all. We know they can live on the surface. But the humans make them live under the see.

Then Anakin kills all of the Sand people Women and Children non fighters. And the Queen KNOWS about this. And she is like that's okay, your only human. So that's the Republic in a nutshell.
